Just Came across some sites that are stating the Motorola Triumph is a re badged Huawaei x6.....

I don't hear good things about this Chinese company's quality. I am a little less excited about getting this phone now :( How do you feel about it?

Look at the specs on the Huawei x6 they are almost exactly the same, except the x6 is GSM. When I researched the x6 I found lots of talk about this phone coming to t-mo & virgin months ago..

Think about it Motorola dose not have any other 4.1" screens & if you look at the specs of the x6 they are exactly the same as the triumph.

I'm a little less excited about this awesome "Motorola" phone for virgin which might be a low quality re badged Huawei x6......

This was the stupidest thing I had ever heard but after I looked at everything you might be on to something. That's the exact same phone and it's retailing at 499 (I think from a video I watched). Damn don't know if I'll be getting that.

its all over many other forums checkout "android forums" is discussed in many threads. it is deff. not the stupidest thing you have ever read!!!! & I hope others who have read and that will read this don't think it is stupid!!!

After doing more research I am 100% sure this phone is made with many Huawei x6 parts. how many I am unsure of.

I have done a lot of research since i wrote the first post & Huaawei & Motorola have had a long ongoing law suite about their relationship and the products they sell designed and manufactured by Huawei they have recently come to an agreement and have decided to work together.......

Google "Motorola Huawei relationship" you will see many articals on the law suite and there recent agreement.

They look a bit different. Similar form factor but definitely nit identical at all. However I bet they're spec'd pretty much identically. It's definitely not made BY Motorola. They've always had ti omap processors and usually a 480x854 resolution. It very well could be a huawei, but I wouldn't call it a rebranded x6.

I just looked at both of them at GSM arena. The triumph has qualcomm's 8655 snapdragon chipset vs the x6 having 8255. The triumph's is the same at the thunderbolt while the x6 is the same as the incredible. Maybe we'll get lucky, since I have a feeling its not manufactured by moto and probably just licensed by them, maybe the bootloader will be unlocked. Though I really don't care as it'll still be a better phone than the ov by a long shot.

Who do you think manufacture 'Motorola' stuff?

"Our headquarters are located in Libertyville, Illinois. Our other major facilities are located in Plantation, Florida; Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing and Tianjin, China; Seoul, South Korea; Chennai, India; and Jaguariuna, Brazil.

We also use several electronics manufacturing suppliers (?EMS?) and original design manufacturers (?ODM?) to enhance our ability to lower our costs and/or deliver products that meet consumer demands in the rapidly-changing technological environment. A significant portion of our handsets are manufactured either completely or substantially by non-affiliated EMS and ODM manufacturers, primarily by two third-party manufacturers in China. "

Huawei is one of the biggest manufacturer for Motorola.

I did not mean identically the same phone, it is obvious the case design is diff. not to mention the radio....:)

But I did mean re branded as a VW Touarg & a Porsche Cayenne are the same.... A Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, a Buick Enclave are re branded GM vehicles all the same car with a little bit different
"Case" on the outside. Design a new "Case" (outer covering) and call it your own.

And in reply to csrow's responce: I know almost all electronic devices are made by other company's than whose name is on them.....

But I was hoping for a Phone Designed by Motorola Engineers like the Droid X, or Dinc. Not an excising "possibly very cheap?" china designed phone by Huawei a company recently sued by mototrola for making knockoff phones.... and are now working together....

The lawsuit and the counter lawsuit was not about any cell phones. It was relating networking equipment design.

If you know of a 'knockoff'' phone lawsuit, maybe you could provide a link? I would like to read about it.

As for the design capability of both companies, how do you come to the conclusion of "very cheap" china design for Huawei compare to Motorola?

As for me, I am glad it's not designed by Motorola. At least that will keep the Blur out of the phone and hopefully have a generic Android (and most likely an open ROM).

We shall see.

not sure where I saw the article over the weekend but it deff. concerned cell phone copy-rite infringement issues I will look for it. As far as Huawei being cheap I am not sure, that's why I put a ? mark there.

The only experience I have with Huawei, is a few phones they make for Metro PCS I have never owned one but my friends have and they all hated them ive played with one of the Metropcs ones and thought it was very poor in quality, very lagy and a POS in general...

I just always thought of the company as making low quality products because of what Metro offers from them. I hope I am wrong cause I really was looking forward to this phone.

I do have to admit the few Forums I did find people talking about their phones (Huawei), I did not see many people in love with them.....;)

What I read is that Motorola sold something to Nokia. Huawei chose to file a suit to keep Motorola from giving Nokia "something" (can't remember exactly what) that was entitled to huawei. Then they settled out of court and are happy go lucky again. They're definitely in business together and whether this phone is a huawei or a Motorola, it will dominate the prepaid world.

You guys should stop complaining, you guys should be saying thanks.....you get adobe fllash which no other vm phone has, camera flash which no other vm phone has, a bigger screen(which would have been perfect if it was 4.2" instead of 4.1"), fastest and neatest CPU and gpu on vm, better camera by alot, and a HD experience especially on gaming. Make it even better its prepaid, when is the last time prepaid had something THIS good. I really like the adobe flash part. Armx7 so we get firefox. Remember triumph is coming with 2.2.3 which solve some/most oh the x6 bugs. So its not such a bad phone anymore. Remember that Motorola gives the software but they only use hardware from the X6

I think it is pretty cool that we have an opportunity to purchase a higher end phone (not highest end) for $300. Most equivalent phones like the Droid X have a no-contract price of around $550 (for example see DROID X by MOTOROLA (Verizon Wireless) | LetsTalk.com ).

The Triumph is probably an improved version of the Chinese made Huawei - that is a plus. I'm glad the x6 has been in the market for awhile so Motorola can see results and improve upon it - like putting in a faster CPU. As far as it being Chinese - that is the norm - most cell phone parts are made there. I doubt Motorola would brand something that does not work - they don't want to hurt there improving but still unprofitable cell business.

VM did a very good job on the LG Optimus V, a low-cost, lower-end Android phone that worked. I hope they learned and the Triumph is another success.

VM will not work for everyone - you need to be in the Sprint network sweet spot for it to make sense. Here is the profile that I think makes the Triumph work:

  • Is is your Second plus Android phone - otherwise get the Optimus, you probably will not notice much of a difference.
  • Much of your data use is wifi enabled - Sprints 3G is slower than Verizon by a lot, and a lot sketchier
  • Your company/parents are not paying for your phone service - otherwise have them pay the Verizon $100/month service fee.
  • You live and work and play in an area that Sprint services at their "Best" level. "Good" service levels are bad, and "Average" is down right unusable. (See VM service map)
  • You like technology. Otherwise a 2 year contract might not matter to you. For me, being stuck with old phone technology isn't acceptable.

I don't think it'll be a much improved version. I bet its just an x6 with a cdma radio. Maybe there's some architectural differences in the cdma version the have effect on the efficiency, but who knows. The bottom line, in my opinion, is that it's a 1ghz (same chip as tbolt) phone with a nice sized 4.1" screen, 480x800 resolution (meaning ALL market apps are res compatible), and pretty feature rich. I think it's gonna be a GREAT phone for vmu users. I've been with them since the release of the intercept, then switched to the OV. The OV is a nice phone, but I'm tired of the low res and low internal memory limiting what apps I can get. I'm still hoping that it drops to $250 by the release, and I suspect best buy to be jumping the gun with their $300 pre-order.
