Is there a Android 6.0.1 coming out soon to address the LG G4 sd card problems?

I am new to Android, new to Smartphones, etc. Quickly learned that the LG G Stylo aka LG G4 I acquired on a promotion from Boost (and I updated to Android 6.0) came with most of the internal storage filled, bought a San disk 32 GB SD card and quickly learned of all the problems with trying to free up internal storage transferring to SD cards. i.e. With Android Marshmellow all you can do is set up an Album with a new photo, and transfer all your other photos to that album and That can go to the SD card. That and a few Apps that use so little GBs it was a waste of time to try. So, I erased the SD card, to give to my wife for her LG Tribute 5 aka LG K7, who still has the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop without all the transfer to SD card issues I believe, and uninstalled Boost 411 on my Stylo that took up the most internal storage memory of all the Apps the phone came with with. The question?? Ah, I did have a question didn't I. It is in the title, Somewhere in a response to this issue I thought I read that Android is releasing 6.0.1 that will address the LG G4 sd card issue. Is that true? If so, when??

The LG Stylo is not the same as the G4. If your Stylo is having model specific issues, you may not get much help in this specific forum.

I can move things around fine on my G4, though. If yours has a stock file manager, I'd suggest either using that or tethering to a computer and using it to move files around. The various apps that use those files should quickly pick up on their new locations. I.e. The gallery app would show them in a new album with their folder name as the title. I'd then set everything you can to save to the SD card by default so you don't have to bother moving them again. Some things won't have that option, like when you save a picture from your browser. Those files you'll have no choice but to move yourself. Same with adding apps, but I recommend leaving them on the internal storage to maintain full functionality.

Agreed. Keep the apps on internal memory and data/media on the sd. Much easier that way.

Re: Is there a Android 6.0.1 coming out soon to address the LG G Stylo SD card problems?

So I am new to smart phones, Android and all that goes with it, shoot me. I made the mistake of believing the LG G4 was the same as the Stylo. Learned they are not the hard way when I ordered an expensive screen protector for the LG G4 for my LG Stylo. Now that I have confessed my error, can we get past the LG G4 correction comments and address the real question. Is there a Android Marshmallow 6.0 Upgrade coming out to address the problems with NOTHING being allowed to transfer to the SD card but photos in a separate Album file, which does not help with storage space issues AT ALL. And no I don't want to sit around and transfer my stuff back and forth by wires using my desk top. I want to use the 32 GB of storage I bought the SD card for. If some other Stylo owner With 6.0 has found other ways to transfer internal storage to the SD card so it is all there available when ones desk top is NOT available I would love to hear about it, please...

So far, mine was the only comment correcting the misidentification. I understand you're new to Android and my comment wasn't intended as a criticism of your mistake. It was only to make sure we're on the same page, because what works for one phone may not work (or require different steps) on another.

The rest of my comment is speaking more in general terms, but should still apply to you. You aren't required to use a computer, but the only other viable option is using a file explorer app on the phone. Chances are, the Stylo has one already. If not, there's plenty of them available in the Play store. This way you can move what you want, where you want.

There was some issues when Lollipop came out due to new rules applied by Google that limited SD card access. As far as I know, those should have been taken care of with newer updates and in to Marshmallow.

Using my preferred app to transfer music to my phone (iSyncR) I have the choice to put it on internal storage or the SD card so there is the option to store music on the card.

I wish I could use my SD card to store a back-up of my phone (greater than 4GB) so I could then copy it to a PC (not enough space on the phone itself to hold a backup file either), but I can't transfer files over 4GB or something.

And when I try to delete anything on the SD card (formatting, etc.) it just comes back with the photos that were previously on it... I've chalked it up to being a bad SD card, but I'm not sure. I removed it from the phone a month or so ago.

Assuming you're using LG Backup, why not break the backup into pieces? Personal Settings, Media, Downloaded Apps, etc?

Also what is it in your backup that is taking up so much room? Media (music, audio books, videos) could be backed up just by copying the files off and not using LG Backup.

When the mm update came through on my wife's LG g4, I was given the option of using the sd card internal storage or for storage, copying and moving files between devices. As the 32 Gb internal card is sufficient I opted for the file storege etc. Did the OP perhaps miss that Question after the update? Far as I remember it's a once off option per card.

Somehow I have 8GB of apps, 3GB of images, 3GB of "Other", just under 4GB of cached data, and 9GB of system data.

Edit: So I've cleared a few apps out and cleared the cached data and I have some space available (7GB now, up from 4.6GB). Guess I'm going to have to offload some more images to the cloud - I don't feel like I have a ton, but oh well.
