Is there a better way to get a notification on my phone for Facebook messages?

I was wondering if there is a way to get Facebook notifications sent to my phone other than via my email account? For some reason I cannot get my emails (yahoo) delivered to my phone. In my email account setup it keeps saying my server is not available? Its been saying this since I bought the phone on launch day. Its funny I care more about my FB notifications more than my email but most email I get is junk mail anyway so thats why Im asking about the secondary issue rather than the perceived bigger issue. Anyone?

I set up a gmail account for this and the fact that I don't want to use yahoo. Gmail has push and I get notifications instantly.

Hmm..... I already have a GMAIL account so I wonder if I could change my FB profile email address to that one? Thanks for the input.

I had the same issue... I have "ymail"; you have to set it up manually to get it working and even then it is a pain because if I do not remember to frequently check it ( which I didn't have to on my strom1) I wouldn't know I had mail.

Getting notifications via gmail is a lot more reliable than the app.

Tweetdeck polls for all notifications every three minutes. I really like it.

No noticeable battery drain from the polling.

The Yahoo Mail app has almost instant (push) notifications.
And with Facebook's new messaging system you can set nearly every kind of notification to be texted to you if you just can't wait.

The official app has been buggy with notifications lately.....since 1.5 the notifications has suddenly stopped. now that its 1.5.2 its hit or miss with the in app notifications. sometimes i get it, sometimes i dont.....

Tried Tweetdeck and I didnt realize it would send me notifications for each and every new tweet by who Im following. Thats overkill..... I deleted it. I have since changed my FB profile email to GMAIL and this has been exactly what I wanted. I get GMAIL notifications pushed through but not yahoo.

There is a Yahoo mail app in the market that works well for ymail.
