Default Zoom Browser Setting

Hi there

I've been looking for an answer to my issue for a couple of weeks now and despite trawling the internet and visiting various mobile stores and speaking to their "experts" I still haven't found the answer.

I had a Note 4 for a week and despite trying virtually every browser in the play store I still couldn't find one that could give me the browser display option I'm looking for. I've a Samsung Note 2 and using the stock browser. There is a "Default Zoom" option in the settings that enables you to choose "close", "medium" or "far" options. Essentially this changes the viewport of the browser enabling you to get a different view of a web site. The "far" option gives a viewport size of 540 x 851. The "medium" option gives a viewport size of 360 x 615. I've noticed on the Note 3 and Note 4 and other newer mobiles that this "Default Zoom" option is no longer available in the browser settings. Does anyone know why this option has been removed?

Because the Note 2 and the like have such a big screens I like to set the default zoom to far which gives me more of a tablet size view. Now it's time for a mobile upgrade I've been really disappointed to find newer mobiles including the Note 4 have removed this option.

Anybody know more info on this?

Cheers

John

Re: Default Zoom Browser Setting

Sorry, no news on this. I just am in the same boat.

I can't get it in to my head that nowadays no browser at all supports this.
So far I have tried Dolphin, Opera, Firefox and UC Browser.
I upgrade from Note 2 to Note Edge which has 4 times the pixels.
However sites I frequently use show me only half the content.
WTH?

For now I mostly resort to the desktop version of the sites.

Re: Default Zoom Browser Setting

Hooray! Found a browser that is configurable to give you exactly that.

Use Firefox Mobile.
Go to about:config
Search for layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
and change to 2.5
(or experiment with values close to that).

Tada! Now a phablet with high-res screen finally pays off!

A big thanks to "snorp" on the Firefox Mobile IRC!

Re: Default Zoom Browser Setting

Could you be more specific how I do that? Do I need to open the app in some configuration app and search for the line?

Oh. Just Type "about:config" (without the quotes) in the adress bar.
Take care not to accidentally change some other setting.
