Is there a difference (device hardware question)

Anyone who's helped me has seen where I posted about my phone being lost, and the one I got from Asurion last Thursday...

Oddly, when I got the phone, it ALREADY had VH on it.

This phone seems to have MAJOR problems with ANYTHING i've done..from running stock 2.3.3 with stock recov, to runing Xionia with reborn, CM, etc..and even gRom on ZVH baseband...

Right now it's back on VD baseband, running Reborn 2.2.4, but it's still having issues. The last install I did of Reborn 2.2.4, I did wipe, wipe again, wipe again, reboot to recovery, install Rom, then reboot phone...so it HAD to have been clean..but doesn't solve much of the problem.

Now the other 2 optimus S phones on my account, my wife's purple LS670, and my grey LS670 that I got from a guy on ebay -- they are working FINE with any rom I try. We're both running CM7 right now, and we LOVE it. It works flawlessly, no freezing and FC..occasional issue but nothing major.

Is it possible there's a hardware difference in the phone I got from Asurion last week? That's the only conclusion I can come to...
But even the VH update.zip that Sprint sent down caused this phone to reboot endlessly and freeze up, needing battery pull many times a day.

Did you flash the debug zip after wiping in recovery? And to answer your question, I don't think your issue is due to a hardware difference...

EDIT: (ignore the following question. Just saw your thread rom reverting)
Also, what steps did you take to revert to VD?

I just got the phone from her as she got up to get ready for work, and ran the debug.zip file on it, then reinstalled the Reborn rom.

Steps to revert VD:

KP500 replacing the v9.cab with vd.cab (LS670ZVD_12)

Okay. Make sure to wipe, flash debug, then flash rom. Also, be sure to check under advanced in recovery and wipe that one too. Just to be sure. ;) then it should be fine after that.

Oh! You probably already understand this, but to be clear, wipe under advanced before flashing rom...

She's been using it, and she's a 22 y/o who HAS to have a phone or she'll just "die omg die"...so if it doesnt work right, trust me, I'll be the VERY FIRST to know. I did the debug.zip file, re-installed Reborn, and now we're going to see how that worked.

Lolololol! I know EXACTLY what you mean!
Shouldn't have any issues... If you do, just re-wipe, wipe advanced, debug, flash rom. Seems like you got the concept though!

It may not have been necessary to do this, but after I did the initial wipe, cache clear, and dalvik cache, I did a reboot to recovery..then did another factory reset, cache wipe, dalvik cache, then chose zip (Reborn) and installed. Those were the steps I took last night, but still had a slight issue -- it actually seems like the longer it runs, the better it gets???

Self-healing Reborn 2.2.4 rom maybe?????
Miraculous immaculate-conception-type phone that can fix itself???

Oh. IIRC, you shouldn't do a factory reset from recovery....
Only wipe, then debug, then flash rom. Rebooting to recovery is good measure too. ;)
The factory reset may have caused your issues and it may be trying to rebuild the files that were erased/damaged and that's why you're having issues... I'm only speculating on this statement and maybe a dev or someone with more knowledge on it can shed more light on this.

Yes. Just wiping (and debug zip). Someone will stick there head in here at some point and have more information I'm sure. My guess is that reflashing stock VD with KP500 may be the solution. Again, just an educated guess... Until then the phone may still act funky.

Do you know if they sent you a refurb or a new phone? New phones usually come in the original boxes and refurbs usually have generic boxes.

I don't think LG would have put out new hardware at this point. Assuming refurb, possibly the refurb is just defective and that's why Asurion got it back to them as a refurb in the first place. It might have bad CPU or memory.

Other than that, your symptoms sound like running a ROM with a mismatched radio, but the process your describe sounds like it was ok.

Usually the OS runs a little slow for a day while it does one-time maintenance so let it sit a little before coming to the conclusion something is wrong.

If you have nothing to lose, ##786# reset is the most comprehensive reset.

Even when running Xionia and Reborm 2.2.4, the maint. occurs?

It was refurb. Has an Asurion sticker under battery

Android, in general, does a lot of stuff in the background. When you attach your Google account, it needs to sync stuff. There's stuff from market. 2.3 may do more maintenance, but every version does some after a new flash. It shouldn't be FCing though. It is possible you have a hardware defect or separate problems that taken together feel worse.

It does seem to be self-healing..(do what??)..lol

sent my sister a text and asked if the phone was still acting up, she said no, it's ok, and has rebooted a couple of times, but not having any FC's since I did the debug.zip this morning, and reinstall of Reborn (dirty reinstall, I didn't wipe/didn't factory reset this morning...she was heading out for work and I didn't want to clear everything until she's going to be here with the phone for a bit longer)

Apparently I did something that is slowly fixing its errors? Maybe not doing a factory reset was the culprit..because I was misreading the [Rom How-To] and every time I did an install of Roms, I did a factory reset before installing them..

Good to hear! You will see that the debug zip has become our cure-all. Because the recovery does not properly clear the system partition, the debug file handles it and clears up any issues. :) Let us know if you run into anymore issues. :)

i thought only the factory reset in the ROMs were to be avoided...doesnt the factory reset in xonia just wipe data, cache, SDext, and .android_secure...i go one step further and format system under mounts. im a flashing junkie and havent had any problems. every now and then titanium BU (free) doesnt do all of what i need so gotta spend some time settin er back up the way i like. but all seems well...should i be changin my ways?
