I just bought a new Moto X Pure; which has updated to 6.0. I noticed that the phone has a sort-of built-in Equalizer that can be found within Google Play Music settings. And when I go to phone settings → Apps, I see "Audio Effects" listed as an app, although it's not a standalone app that I can launch.
I wanted a global equalizer that works across the entire phone in all apps that produce sound. I tried the most popular 3rd party Equalizer in the Play Store, which worked globally on my old Galaxy S3 beautifully. But on the MotoX, it says it conflicts with Audio Effects. So I disabled Audio Effects from Settings → Apps. But even when I do that, I couldn't get the 3rd party equalizer to work.
I also tried some other high-popularity equalizer apps in the Play store. None of them work. I also started reading reviews for these apps. And there are lots of 1-star reviews simply saying it doesn't work (for some specific Android phone). But there's also lots of 5-star reviews for phones that it does work on. At this point, I'm thinking that this is general problem with some Android phones, or the Marshmallow 6.0 operating system, that doesn't play well with 3rd party equalizers.
Has anyone tried using a 3rd party global equalizer that works on your phone (if it's a relatively recent phone, with Lollipop or Marshmallow)? If it does work, what phone (year/model) are you using?
Does anyone know why Equalizer apps work on some android phones but not others?
