Is there a hidden database of contacts on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8?

Hi, my father has a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and he said that there are contacts that he hasn't saved/entered into the contacts app. He said it appears that they come from incoming emails he receives, and they automatically get stored somehow. Does this sound right. He said he can't access them, but they are there when he goes to enter a name or email address in the To: field for example.

How do you get rid of/clear/edit them and prevent them from being saved/cached?

I hope this makes sense. I haven't seen it yet, but will get a look over the next week or so.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Export contacts (it's in Contacts/Menu). Import contacts (same menu item). Import them as Google contacts, not as Device contacts. Sync the contacts.

Go to Google Contacts, hit More, Find & remove duplicates. Delete the ones he doesn't want. Then when the phone syncs contacts (you can force it manually by going into Accounts/his-google-account [not email, even if it's the same address], turn off contact sync, then turn it on) it'll have the ones at the site. From now on he should enter all his contacts as Google contacts, not the default Device contacts.
