I found a bunch of 32gb mini sd cards on Newegg for around the $20 mark of different brands, some I have never heard of before. Is there that much of a difference in them?

Stick with brand names. Not that they are better, but sometimes they have some better return policies and warranties if needed.

I usually buy Samsung or SanDisk. I have bought other lesser known brands and they functioned fine, but just a matter of personal preference.

They are probably all made in the same factory anyway.

Check the class of the card. For shooting and storing video you need a Class 10 I believe. Yes there are lots of differences between a good card and a bad one. Check the read & write speeds on each.
Also, the longevity of the cards can differ.
