top secondary microphone only for noise cancellation or actually records?

I just got an S6 and the stupid guy at AT&T was trying to open the slim slot and put the ejector tool in the top mic. I didn't think much of it until today. I noticed when covering up the bottom mic when calling someone or when do a voice memo no audio is picked up. Is this normal since the top is just used for noise cancellation or did the rep ruin one of my mics?

anyway anyone can test this? otherwise I got to go back to B&H where I got the phone

Welcome to Android Central! I think both mics are used for stereo recording when making a video. Try recording a video, then watch it using headphones. Do both channels come through ok, or is one side muffled or silent?
