Is there a volume lock?

I keep bumping the volume button on the side and silencing it. I miss so many calls before I realize what I did. Is there a way to lock it and release it when I want to put it on silence?

No, but there are ways to force it back to Max Ringer Volume when the screen is locked.

Two apps are very useful here,

Disable Increasing Ring: this makes the Ringer full volume on the very 1st ring, not that inane stupid low whisper then gradually increase in volume. What goofball thought that up?

2nd, I chose to use MacroDroid to sense the state of the Screen.

* MacroDroid - Device Automation - Android Apps on Google Play

ie, when the screen is Locked, MacroDroid will then active a macro that will Force the Ringer Volume to MAX

this is how I did it.

Select Trigger > Screen OFF > OK

Add Action > Set Volume > Ringer > Slide ruler to far right > OK

Touch the Right Arrow (top right corner of display)

Constraints: None > Touch the Right Arrow

Type in a suitable name > Ringer Vol Max > OK
(keep it short, or you can't read it in the Macro List)

Category: I suggest you ignore this for now, it is of no real value to us, and it hides the macro list. tut tut

MacroDroid is extremely useful, once you experiment with it.
Here is a short list of macros that I keep running all the time.

I use the app Persist. It allows you to set & lock all sounds (ringer, voice, notification, system, etc.) individually. Works great.

I must be doing something wrong. None of the 3 allowed me to stop accidentally hitting the volume and turning it off.

Uh, nothing is going to stop that.

My suggestions were to reset to the desired volume levels when the phone goes to sleep, or wakes up.
