Is there a way to increase the size of text?

I see there are some apps out there but I don't want to trial a bunch of junk on my phone. Can anyone suggest a way to increase the size of the fonts with the standard system alone? I really just want to be able to send and receive text messages without having to put my glasses on. Yes, I'm lazy. Oh, and I'm old. :)

System Settings/Display/Font Size or System Settings/Accessibility/Large Text.

I probably should have mentioned I'm on Gingerbread. I can do settings, display settings or settings, accessibility and that's it. I see nothing else in the menus for font size or large text. Am I missing something?

I get voice recognizer and text to speech capabilities. Talk back, Power button ends call. No change to the display or IM menu that I can see. :(

Oh, I found what you were thinking of. Page 155 of the manual but that is for email size. It doesn't have any effect on the Instant Messages size. Nice try though! :)

You cannot change text size, you have to have root to do this. You could try "Big launcher" from Playstore. Free version is limited, and Pro version is expensive, but you don't have many options. Tried to post link but it will not work.

I found that app. Looks nice but I'm so tight on space... if I can change the OS I'd rather do that first.

Actually, I do have root. If you know what else can I do that would be great?
