Without affecting sense. I rather have it display maybe 5x5 to fit more icons viewable at once.

also i know that you can press menu and make it a list style, but that's really annoying with having a lot of apps and shows even less at a time than the normal icon mode.

Not quite the same thing, but you can use an icon space to create a folder, and that folder can contain multiple icons. So you could create folders for lesser used apps.

Or you could just take advantage of the 7 home pages, and have up to 112 icons handy.

I love the LauncherPro Beta for it's versatility with setting up icons like you want as well as many other great features. I use the Nexus 1.

You can't really get rid of Sense. If you use Launcher Pro you can have 4x5 icons in portrait mode only. (It does landscape but only works with 4x4, naturally.) You can dig up a few apps to replace the HTC ones.

More Icons Widget

First time poster, but have been following AC for some time. I too was trying to find a way to get more icons on the screen to take advantage of the huge screen on my EVO. Found "More Icons Widget" on Appbrain and its just what I needed.

The free version allows 4 smaller icons in the same space as 1 standard icon. The paid version ($1.99, well worth it) allows 2x1(8 small icons) and 4x1(16 icons). Using 4 icons in the space of one makes them rather small, but again with the size of the EVO screen I haven't had any issue in opening apps.
