Android Central Question

I hope to replace my Windows 10 laptop with a new S8 tablet.
The only thing holding me back is that I use a flatbed scanner on a pretty regular basis to scan old pictures (thousands) of my family and then I move them into cloud storage for further processing.

I have been poking around for some time trying to learn if the Android OS on a tablet supports using an external scanner and if so, which one(s).

I understand that I can use my phone to scan a photo but that would sinply not work for me with the volume of photos that I have.

Anyone have experience with something like this ?

It's going to be dependent on just what scanner you're using. The most optimal situation is there's an existing Android app available for your scanner model. Otherwise, it's going to be a hit-or-miss matter that a generic scanning app is going to work with your model. You'll have to try different apps and fingers crossed one will work out.
Keep in mind, with an Android device it's not like you just download the necessary device driver to start interacting with whatever external device. Driver/firmware support gets added via an app. In this instance, the manufacturer of the scanner adds in the necessary firmware into its app. You would then install that app so you can interact with the scanner.
Check the Play Store if there's an app for your model of scanner. If you don't find anything there, try going to the web site of the manufacturer and see if there's references to Android support. If that doesn't work out either, go back to the Play Store and just start experimenting with the available, generic flatbed scanner apps and hopefully one will work with your model.
What scanner do you have? That would make it easier to more definitive suggestions.
