Android Central Question

Say I got AT&T service on SIM 1 and T-Mobile service on SIM 2....find myself in a situation where one of the provider signals is of lower quality. Is there an APP that would quickly toggle to the provider with the better signal?

thanks!

Welcome to the forums. What phone do you have? Do you mean switching SIM for mobile data?

Hey Javier-its a Unihertz Atom with dual SIMs. Yes, data, voice...text etc. You have to go though quite a bit to manually switch between the 2 cards. Thanks!

Unihertz Atom..mini android phone. I was in a cafe the other day...TMobile signal was weak and would not work. Friends come in with AT%T provider phones that work fine. My phone has both TMobile and AT&T SIMS now. So is there a quick way to switch between carriers to allow for selection of the better quality signal without going thru and manually configuring everything before calling/texting/data?

Hmm. Never heard of that model before. The dual SIMs I've used don't need configuring to switch sims because both will be active at the same time. There will just be a separate send/call button for either SIM.

Yeah, both can be toggled to the on position making both "active" I guess, each having its own separate config settings but only 1 can be listed as primary. Was hoping to find an APP that would allow a toggling between the 2 providers based on minutes left, txts remaining or signal quality. Or if you wanted to designate one SIM as your personal number and the other a work number. Send a personal text...then toggle over to other service provider to send a work text via that account. Might have to get one specific for this model I suppose? Seems like it would be something very useful for those having a dual sim phone. I think I've read where there are different types of dual sim configs? thanks for any help..

***This is directly from the users manual:

Dual SIM settings
When two SIM cards are inserted, only one SIM card can be set as the 4G/3G/2G
SIM. You can also configure the default card for mobile data and phone calls
according to your monthly plan.
This feature is only available on dual SIM phones.
Open Settings and touch SIM cards. You can configure both SIM cards as desired.

● If you disable a SIM card, you will be unable to use it to make calls, send

messages, or access the Internet.
● Select Calls. You can configure whether you want to select a SIM card manually or
use the default SIM card each time you make a call. If you choose to use the default
SIM card, your phone will use that SIM card for all outgoing calls.
● Select SMS messages. You can configure whether you want to select a SIM card
manually or use the default SIM card each time you send a message. If you choose
to use the default SIM card, your phone will use that SIM card for all outgoing
messages.

As you can see, its a bit of a process to switch between 2 SIM cards. An APP that would allow you to "toggle" between the 2 service providers would be very useful IMO. Its a very new model..hopefully someone out there is tackling this issue...

thanks!

Thanks for registering! Sorry for the delay, different time zones :)

That phone is a Dual SIM Dual Standby model so it shouldn't be so difficult to select manually which card to use every time you make a call or send a text. I don't know how that phone handles the Dual SIM functionality but this is pretty standard on most DSDS models. Changing the SIM for mobile data will necessarily involve a few steps, easier if you use the toggle on the quick settings panel. To make things easier you can create a shortcut for the right section in the settings using a custom launcher or a shortcut maker app.

It's not going to be very easy making that process automatic depending on things like signal strength and such. Maybe apps like Tasker could do this but I'm not sure and if possible it's not going to be that easy to create the proper tasks.

Thanks for the info Javier. BTW-love the green tree frog, got a sticker similar to that on the scooter windshield. Very common spp. here in Texas...Genus Hyla

This is a fairly unknown phone as well, and well, all dual SIM phones I've used (Samsung) has a toggle in the drop down shade to switch which SIM is used for data.

You could probably rig up Tasker to switch SIM for data automatically based on geofencing, but never tried doing that before.

2 years later and still an issue - I think in the US this is by design because carriers do not want people to do what I attempt to do. I have cheap unlimited plan as primary (Visible) and backup data only sim (T-Mobile). With iPhone , it will automatically use data of 2nd sim if 1st sim is weak I believe

To use data on 2nd sim , you have to make it primary which is a painstaking process - I was hoping to find an app that allowed a shortcut for this

Did you ever find an app that allowed you to create a shortcut to do this?
