Is there anyway to stop the screen from lighting up when a text is received?

The title pretty much sums it up. I don't want the screen to light up when I get texts.

Nope, it's always been like that for Samsung phones at least for a while now.

HOWEVER, if you use a different messaging app, like Hangouts, that goes away

Thanks for the info.

I was using a 3rd party app on my S5 to prevent this. Unfortunately, that app inadvertently blocks some features of the Edge screen.

Guess I'm stuck for now.

Guess it depends on the messaging app. I turn off pop ups and in regular settings I have touch key light duration always off.

My phone never comes on I have the Samsung gear s and don't want my screen coming on or alerting at all when I'm at work. Saves tons of battery... When I am at home and note wearing the watch I turn on augmented edge so my edge only comes on when I get a text.

I've had this set up for a while and now that I think about it my screen doesn't come on at all unless I have turned on manually or I have augmented edge on.

Which I had to do with my S5 because Samsung's messaging app (same with Verizon's) couldn't respond to texts through my Moto 360, I could only read them. I used Hangouts until Google Message came back out, now I use that. My Note Edge's display never kicks on whenever I receive a text. My Moto 360 does but not my phone.

Augmented Edge is an app in the play store (FREE) that requires Augmented Smartwatch Pro (PAID) to work. And before you say you don't have one... it has nothing to do with a smartwatch.

It flashes a color a preset number of times and then the alert or just the alert based on your settings.

Have you tried Settings > Display & lights > Ambient Display ?
