Is there now any reason to wait until X-mas?

I'm switching from Blackberry to Android on Sprint and have been holding out for a phone with all the features I'm hoping for.

With the Epic 4g out in a few weeks, is there any reason to wait until X-mas in hopes of a better featured phone by then?

For tax purposes I have to buy by the end of the year, and I'm eager to dump my clunky antiquated Blackberry, but the EVO's lack of a GPU has kept me away, as well as the whispers of a 2GHZ Android phone materialization by X-mas (I'm not averse to switching carriers).

I'm intrigued by the Epic, but Samsung seems to have a lousy support reputation around here...case in point: no sign of 2.2 yet.

Waddya think?
(I realize any phone purchase is off the cutting edge them moment you unbox it..but if I can hold out a couple months for a *big* tech leap, I'll wait it out)

It will be here soon plus if you root you can get it now.

Samsung will not let this phone go by the way side...this is their flagship device and they know if they by pass this, that the next time, Samsung might be at a loss. Now that 2 of the 4 have the Galaxy...soon to be #3, maybe Samsung is waiting for all the Galaxy S phones to be released...They already said that come by the end of September, 2.2 would be available.

Out of the myriad of phones getting rumored lately 3 come to mind - Project Emerald, the PSPhone, and the Dell Thunder.

Dell Thunder looks nice because of what seems to be a very nice resolution on its OLED screen. Processor is guessed to be the same as the one in Dell's Streak.

PSPhone is also rumored to have a 1ghz Snapdragon Processor, which makes me wonder how powerful it could actually be. Dedicated gaming buttons would be a nice thing to have. Also wondering what kind of screen it'll end up having. Engadget's description of a Captivate mixed with PSPGo controls wonders if they were talking about Captivate's Screen, or graphics processing power (or both).

Project Emerald was rumored to be the first Dual Core phone coming to market supposedly from Tmobile. According to this article, the very last part of the article states:
P.S. That Sidekick theory that started all this Project Emerald mess? Pushed back to 2011.
I think he is referring to the Dual Core rumor.

All of these phones either have no solid information, less impressive features, or have been delayed past 2011. I think I feel safe with my Galaxy S purchase at least until next year. Regardless, the Galaxy S lineup of phones will serve you well.

2.2 is supposed to be on the Epic by September. I read that on another android website.
That is laughable., where did you read that? it will be months. Sprint has leaked to the reviewers it will be the same amount of time as Froyo went to evo.

So October/November...and since vlingo just became free... (voice aided dialing) just what else other than a browser java and flash are you waiting on for Froyo 2.2?

By Christmas Epic will have 2.2 and will probably be at least $50 cheaper. Plus you'll get to read here about all the solutions to the headaches we discover.

Nah, I'm in line Aug 31! :-P

'Leaked'. So the same as rumor.
Are you new to the business? it is not a a rumor. It is projected date.
The reviewers would not be attributing it to Sprint and samsung if it were not more than a rumor.
Engadget asked Sprint and Sammy about Froyo for epic and were answwered thus:
Sprint and Samsung promise that the Epic will get Android 2.2 Froyo soon?think the time between Froyo release and EVO update?but after that, it's hard to say.
froyo was released in mid late May 2010. Evo got the update in early August. that is 2.5 months. I said "months" That goes to about mid late nov.

While you mock people who know you write you read September it on another website: again I ask, where?

What precedent do you have for Sprint release a full OS update for a handset within a month of release? If Sprint thought that Froyo would be ready for Epic two weeks after Aug 30 they would have waited.

bump froyo! will we get 3.0? More importantly does anyone know if the Epic 4g is hardware able to run 3.0 if so then im sure we will we recieve the update- however I did recall reading somewhere where 3.0 doesn't allow for custom skins ( aka sense, touchwiz) idk but it would be cool to recieve the 3.0 update then I will feel like Sprint did me justice with this purchase.

Only google could answer this now as Gingerbread has nothing official.

My original post was speculation. I didn't say it was fact. I knew I should have put a disclaimer on it. Seeing as how we are on a thread that is a lot of speculation. I guess I have learned my lesson and for people like you I will from now on put a disclaimer on my posts.

Proof please. They have already rumored that the original Galaxy S is getting Froyo next month and I'm assuming the others will be right behind it. We're not talking Behold II you know.

Also, we don't even know if it's 3.0. It could just as well be 2.3. I've done some research and cannot confirm that Gingerbread is 3.0.

Dont wait... With ur yearly upgrade with sprint u wont be missing much. Plus if you wait till Christmas then the blockbuster summer devices will be coming out soon anyway so there is always something better right around the corner in this day and age lol..
