Is this normal Voicemail app behavior?

I've had my Note 4 for about a month and I never before noticed voicemail using this high of a percentage of the battery.

No one has left me a voicemail in days, yet the voicemail app is staying awake for hours.

I'm on Sprint and 5.1.1.

Thanks for any input!

It's become the biggest battery user today.

Are you using the voice to text function (Premium VM)? I know a couple people that use that and see higher levels of battery usage even with no voicemails left.

Personally I switched to fully integrated Google Voice for my voicemails, also lets me answer phone from within Chrome on my Surface Pro 3 or other computers where I use Chrome.

I don't have Premium VM and I haven't even received a VM in eight days.

VM ended up being the top battery user yesterday at 16%, beating out 3.5 hours of SOT at 12%.

I am having the sme issue with my Sprint note 4. I tried to block background data specifically to the voicemail, bu that didn't help, so now I've wiped the cache and cleared the data in the application and haven't set my voicemail back up yet, hopefully that will fix the battery drain until I can make it to Sprint. Last voicemail I received was over a month ago and was a wrong number, so its basically useless to me.

Today everything is back to normal. There is no sign of Voicemail under battery useage. I hope it stays that way.

I just wish I knew why the issue occurred and what made it go away!
