Is this normal?

Hi guys, I hope you can help me, I'm a medical student and I don't really have a lot of time to use my phone (as you can see, only an hour with the screen on), so I would like to know if it's a normal behavior for the Google play services to use that much battery , I bought it a couple of days ago and didn't notice this, I don't have too many apps so doing a factory reset wouldn't be an issue, thanks for your time!

In Settings, General, Location, Mode, is your location reporting set to Battery Saving? If it is not, set it to that.
If it was set to High Accuracy, that might explain the battery drain.

En Ajustes, General, Localización, Modo, es su ubicación establecida para la presentación de informes de ahorro de batería? Si no es así, póngalo en eso.
Si se establece en Alta Precisión, que podría explicar la descarga de la batería. [Google.Tr.]

Hey!

I'm not a professional neither but I think its normal. Usually screen uses the most of the battery but since you are not using your phone quite often, play services took the most of the battery. If you would have used your phone for like 1 hour (screen on) before that I think screen would be around 40 percent.

Thanks for answering, I actually have it in battery saving mode, but most of the time i have location turned off. I do notice that even with the location off, Google play services shows that LocationService is on, any idea on what could be causing that?

Apps sometimes require location and it can show in Google Play Services, is what I was thinking of. But if you are set to Battery Saving, it's not that. Wikh is probably right....the high percentage of battery drain may be because you are not using the phone, and especially Screen, much. Try to use it for several hours, and then take a look at your battery statistics.
Regarding your last remark, Location Services showing as On is normal, since you are using them in Battery Saving mode.

No, this is not normal. I've had my G3 since July and never saw this until yesterday. I always had the location on GPS only, switched to high accuracy today and it made no difference. No idea what's going on here..

A syncing problem perhaps. A simple soft reset might fix.

I turned the phone completely off for a few hours last night, and gave it the full blackberry treatment with a battery pull this morning....

Hows about a bit of cache and data clearing in Google Play Services?

You need to understand one thing about the battery stats. The numbers don't show how much battery an app (like play services) is using. They show the relative percentage, compared to the total of all apps. The total for all apps, screen, OS, etc. MUST add up to 100%. So the less you use your phone, the lower the percentage of battery use is going to be for the screen and user apps, and the higher the percentage is going to be for the OS and system level function.

For example: our battery is 3,000 mAmps. Let's say that over 12 hours, Play services uses 500 mAmps. Let's also say that you have the screen on for 4 hours, and the screen uses 1500 mAmps, and apps use another 1,000 mAmps. That totals 3,000 mAmps. That means the screen used 50%, apps 33%, and Play ~16%.

Now say that in the next day, during the same 12 hour period, you only have the screen on for 1 hour. Play still uses 500 mAmps, screen uses approximately 375 mAmps, and apps approximately 250 mAmps. That's a total of 1125 mAmps, and Play uses 44% of the amount used. NOT 44% of the battery capacity.

In both examples, Play uses the same amount of battery. The data just looks worse in the second example.

The OP barely used his phone, so of course background processes like Play Services are going to use a higher percentage of the total used. That doesn't mean it's actually using a lot of battery.

Right, but that doesn't explain why Google play services used over 11 hours worth of GPS time from my previous screen shot.

So last night I cleared force stopped all the processes that were running under Google play services, and then turned my phone off and charged it. Powered it on when I woke up and went about my typical day. Google play services GPS usage was down to a more normal 7 minutes by the end of the day.
