I have a WIFI only Motorola Xoom and I am interested in upgrading it to a 3G model so I can put a sim card into it. When i bought it, I didn't think I would need it but more and more now, I wish I did buy one.

So, like the title says, is it possible and what would it cost?

Thanks,
Nick

It cannot be upgraded to a 3G. You will either have to trade it for a 3G model...or, get a mobile hot spot device and data plan (both AT&T or Verizon offer 4G options) which you can them utilize via your Xoom's WiFi.

In retrospect, I've wondered if I would have been better off to have waited for the WiFi only model and gotten a mobile hot spot device to go with it, as it would have allowed me to also use 3G/4G for my laptop as well (being able to connect up to five WiFi capable device to 3G/4G simultaneously - Set Your Location). And, I'd have had 4G since well before the Tab 10.1 came out as well (sill waiting for notification that they are ready to upgrade my Xoom to 4G).

The down-side would be having to port around another device, and keep it charged up also.

Thats what I was afraid of. I may try and find someone to trade units with. However, before I do that, can I put an AT&T sim card in and use that instead of a Verizon sim card?

Do you mean put an AT&T SIM card into a 3G/4G Xoom? No, the SIM card is only for Verizon LTE and won't work with AT&T GSM.
