Just ran into this article on Engadget. Is this solid proof that Samsung Galaxy S devices i.e. Captivate have hardware issues with the gps and will not be fixed by firmware update, Froyo, or settings.....I think it will not be resolved until newer devices.....This is proof to me....New Radios all around.

Samsung Devices new radios

I was listening to the latest Android Central Podcast while putting up my Christmas lights this afternoon and I thought they were talking about a software update that fixes the GPS issue. I want to say it was about half way through the Podcast if you want to listen to it.

They have tried the software update thing. The GPS is still inconsistent. Thats why hardware changes have been issued.

Corey, the forum admin, has a Fascinate on Verizon. He managed to get his hands on a patch Verizon is going to push out and claimed on the podcast that his GPS was now "perfect".

I think you have your "They's" mixed up. I see your point though, that if Google noted how the other Galaxy phones had GPS issues and had the NS tested... and perhaps found to come up wanting, and had the issue fixed with new antennas.

However, Corey is well aware of the GPS issues and if he called it "perfect", we shall see. Whatever Verizon did to fix the Fascinate, if it is indeed fixed, I am sure will find its way to ATT or at least to a custom ROM we can load or strip out the fix, etc.

But yeah, the new antenna thing got me thinking too. I hope we are wrong.
