Is this why the nexus 7 has the smart cover sensor?

i noticed that on the galaxy nexus, the pogo dock (like on the nexus 7) automatically turns on the device when connected to the dock. could it be possible that the dock uses magnets to connect to the device? just a thought, dont be afraid to leave your opinion.

The smart magnet is only supposed to work on the front, but anything's possible. The magnet really changes the nature of cases so it's worth it with or without a dock in mind. The other tablets have to rely on screen time outs which can be annoying with normal use, or set longer and eat the battery. This one not only auto-sleeps it wakes the device as well. No more fiddling for a power button

I'm a little unclear on your question... Is it about the dock or the Nexus 7?

To the best of my knowledge, the Nexus 7 has a 'smart cover sensor', or intelligent magnet(s), so that cases can be given the ability to wake/sleep the tablet (such as the TreeGloo product, DIY creativity, or other 'smart cover' offerings) on impulse.

It would be sensible that vendors would include magnets in their Nexus 7-compatible products, as the addition of such functionality is cheap both in terms of economics and space.

For some reason I feel extremely baffled by your post... I have reread it several times and remain itchy and confused :)

Edit: Ignore me, I've been drinking.

The pogo pins on the side of the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 have nothing to do with magnets. So no, I don't think the magnet sensor has anything to do with the dock.

I think it's just there for a smart cover. I'm guessing Google is too scared to get sued by Apple to have a Google branded smart cover and is hoping third party manufactures will make one themselves.
