Issue with group mms restore from M7 to M8

I have a number of group messages(mms) that is in one single thread but when I try to restore my mms to my M8 it shows all the mms in that individuals convo thread instead of the group thread that it was originally in on my M7. Does anyone know what I can do, or am i out of luck?

are you using the default backup or a 3rd party app? both maybe intefering with one another?

what about the messenging app? stock or 3rd party?

Im using textra on my M7 and stock on my m8 and im using mybackup to move my messages. I did use the htc recovery to restore my messages but it only does sms and I used mybackup to restore the mms
