Issues installing HTC Sync (1722 Error)

I have made multiple attempts at installing HTC sync and on every try I get the dreaded 1722 Error. What, if anything, should I be looking at to keep this from happening?

that's a nasty Wondows installer error. Couple of things to try -
If you're running XP, make sure you're up to date with Win Script hosting service:
Download details: Windows Script 5.6 for Windows XP and Windows 2000

Dig through the error log and see if it gives a clue -
\windows\SetupApi.log


Finally, try to rename the
c:\windows\installer\83780.msi
file to
c:\windows\installer\83780.BAK

you can change it back to c:\windows\installer\83780.msi if it makes no difference.

Hope this helps. I have seen that several times on Win2K and never was able to fix it without wiping Windows.

Wow, this may be the lynch pin for me to wipe this machine. While I am not looking forward to it, it may just need to be done. Thanks.
