Issues with WiFi use - may be user error

Hopefully someone can help me this issue...

I recently upgraded from the Droid Incredible (original) to the Rezound. With the Droid Incredible, I have had no trouble turning on WiFi and utilizing it.

However, with the Rezound, I can turn on WiFi and it connect just fine, but I cannot use it to access the internet. Things I do know:

1. It is not the home network. Laptops/Computers/TVs/etc are connected just fine. It is also not a poor password. I am CONNECTED to the WiFi, but it will not load any web pages.

2. I have the same issue on free WiFi elsewhere. I don't believe it is a signal strength issue, as at home when I have great connection with my laptop, I cannot load web pages with my phone.

3. It is not a phone issue - this is the third 4G phone in my apartment (Samsung Charge, Motorola Razr, and HTC Rezound). All three of them could connect to WiFi, but not actually use the internet when connected.

I believe it is a user error, but I cannot figure out what it is. I have tried disconnecting the mobile network while using WiFi. I'm not sure if there is a setting somewhere that I am missing.

Please help!

So your WiFi is turned on. You can see a WiFi network. You have the correct network password or security key entered, and your phone has connected to the WiFi Network. BUT you still cannot use your phones Browser to surf the web? And you know the WiFi network works because you can use laptops etc just fine? AND this has happened to 3 different phones? Which Browser are you using and have you checked your Browser settings? HMMMM.

Correct. I go into settings, turn on my wifi. I connect to my home network, and it connects just fine. It tells me that it is connected. I have a WiFi service signal in my notification bar, and it is full.

The home network is fine and able to be connected to with devices that are not 4g phones. I also rule out the home network as an issue because this behavior also happens on other networks, such as at Starbucks.

Any 4G phone that has been owned in this household displays the same issues on all WiFi networks. I should also add that I'm not sure it is a browser error, because while I mentioned websites, I cannot do anything with the WiFi. For instance, apps offered through amazon often require wifi to download, I am unable to download them.

But, if it is a browser error, I just use the internet app provided by HTC. This app worked with my old phone and WiFi. I have not checked the browser settings, as I did not think it was relevant. What would I check in the browser settings?

Okay. Well I believe in checking the simple things first.

Go to Menu>Settings>Wireless & Networks>WiFi Settings. Find the name of your Wireless Network and select it. Does it ask for a Wireless Password or Does it say you are connected.

Sorry if this sounds remedial.

I'm fine with remedial if we get it to work.

When I select my network, it tells me that I am connected and the WiFi notification icon is in my notification bar. It is white and at full "power."

It is the standard "web page unavailable" error. This is not specific to any certain web pages and will even happen for google.com, which is the standard page I use for testing.

Your settings look good, they match with mine. Hmmmm have you tried a battery pull and reboot?

Did it ever work? Anywhere? I would consider taking it into Verizon to see if they can get it to work.

This wifi hasn't worked anywhere. I'm afraid if I talk to verizon, they will just try to give me a new phone. I would hate to set it all up again when I'm not sure it's a phone issue.

Just tell them you are having problems getting wifi to work. If they can't get it to work and you have a defective phone, then you should get a new phone. Just make sure the wifi works before you leave the store. So what if you have to resetup your phone, you deserve to have your phone work properly.

I have a Linskys wireless (B&G) router with WPA and a Dlink Dir-655 (setup as G&N only) used only as an access point.

Dlink set up as WPA2 with AES and TKIP.
Moto Droid 1 could never connect to Dlink.
Laptop and Wii had no problem connecting to Dlink.

Rezound having same problem as user. Connects to Dlink Wifi with strong signal but cant use Internet.
Using Linksys it worked but had problem switching between two routers.

Then changed Dlink WPA2 to AES only. Seems to work for a night but next day same problems.

Moto Triumph seems to connect to both Dlink and Linksys no problems switching!!

So now I going to try just WPA only on Dlink to see what happens.

This is so frustrating!

Ok, changed Dlink from WPA2 to Auto(WPA or WPA2). Rezound seems to connect OK. Takes 5-10 seconds whereas Linksys WPA only connects in 3 seconds.

BTW LTE speed in San Diego I'm getting 8-10M down 1 M up on first floor, on second floor getting 12-18M Down 4-8Up. Its only 9 feet higher!

My wife's phone has an issue with WiFi. My phone connects without any issues, email, texts, internet, apps, everything works. Her's not so much, some of it is hit and miss. She has full WiFi signal, looking at the signal strength screen side by side our numbers are identical, but she'll try to send a pic in a txt, or an MMS, and it will take hours for it to go through, if it goes through. Sometimes while this is happening she might be able to get online, or access the market or Amazon app store, but usually when this is happening nothing works. Sometimes if I turn her WiFi off, whatever isn't working, will work, but getting a decent signal in our house is virtually impossible. It's so bad that we have to use Big Red's Samsung network extender. That being said, once or twice turning off either the WiFi or Network connection and turning it back on seemed to allow things to work, but not always and not consistently. Since we have the same phone, and I'm not having issues, it is my guess that it is either;
setting related, like she turned on something or some app she installed changed something OR
it's purely app related.
As for the settings I've checked them all against my phone and haven't found any difference except on the main settings screen I have the Charm setting and she doesn't. I know it's not related I just think it's interesting.
She uses facebook, (deleted mini rant about hating FB. I hate it!). Anyway she, even though I've warned her to read reviews and check ratings before downloading apps, she always ends up having issues with airpush ads, and spam texts. It's like she never learns.

Reading over the responses it seems several people have tried adjusting their router settings. I looked at mine and adjust one or two, checked her phone and eventually put them back. While her connection was working at the time I was looking at the settings I keep coming back to the fact that my phone works, and she had the same issue with the Inc. Mine worked then too. I'm convinced it's app or FB related. Reading over some of the responses in this forum and over at Android Forums no one is thinking it's app related or even just a bum phone.

Like I said I'm kind of counting out the bum phone just because the odds of us getting the same phone two times and both of hers having connection issues with WiFi and mine not having them is... I'd say my odds of hitting the loto are just as likely. I'll watch the tread for a few days then hard reset her phone. If that doesn't do it, then it's back for insurance. A third phone would pretty much seal the deal on it being installed junk over true phone problems.
