The news articles that detailed the press release say that Samsung is aiming for a mid-November release date on all major U.S. carriers.
Nothing more specific than that yet. US cellular says that it is scheduled to ship pre-orders by the end of October.

Apple just announced the mini-pad will be unveiled on October 23rd...conveniently one day before Samsung will have their Note 2 showcase in NYC on October 24th. I am hoping the carriers will be ready to sell it that day...or will we have to wait until mid-November to give Apple time to sell their pad???
While I have no doubts that this will come to Verizon, that picture doesn't make it official. Remember way back when when GOOGLE posted that the Nexus One was coming out for Sprint and Verizon? I had my case and a dock ready to go and BLAM, no more CDMA version all of a sudden.
Just saying.
I really don't see how iPad mini and Galaxy Note 2 can compete with each other.
I'm unhappy with my current Galaxy S3 because of its "tiny" screen, which is why I'm waiting for the Galaxy Note 2.
I also own a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and Apple iPad 2. (those two don't fit in my pocket... and they spend most of their
time sitting on my desk)

I didn't mean to imply they would compete with each other...just that Apple will try and steal a little bit of Samsung's thunder by announcing a new product the day before Sumsanu does.
Here's how I picture it:
iPad Mini = fat wife who lost weight and had a makeover, who will continue to demand that you do everything HER way.
Galaxy Note 2 = hot skinny model with high IQ, who also happens to let you do anything YOUR way.
