Its too heavy... really?

It is too heavy when you laying on the bed and holding it up to read. It's really tiring. Yes, I am really lazy.

It is most definitely too heavy...for women, infants, and sissy girly men.

For the rest of us, the weight is just fine.;)

Same here. Currently watching TV from the bed. I've becoe accustomed to leave the xoom flat on the bed itself, rather then lift it.

Problem may stem from having a galaxy s being so light. Not that the xoom weighs a ton, just that ideally it could be lighter. It's relatively light for a tablet, but we all know it could be lighter. I don't regret my purchase at all, but I imagine future android tablets will place an emphasis on lighter devices.

It is heavy when trying to read the Xoom in bed. It tends to make your hands tired after reading for an extended period. On the other hand, I expect my grip to get much stronger over time.

I agree, over extended periods of time it tends to get heavy. It is akward when laying down and trying to play games with on screen controls such as spectral souls. To me its not a problem with strength as much as ergonomics.

I am totally happy with the xoom but if it was the same exact product but lighter, I would prefer lighter.

It's more about ergonomics than weight. I have rather large hands and have no issues with it, but I can see if you not able to comfortably find a grip that feels secure not only are you holding it but "squeezing" it so it doesn't slip out of your hand. If it had a contour or good rubber grip it would be much easier for anyone with smaller hands. It has much less to do with strength and much more to do with design.

Find a good case that gives you a comfortable "handle" or grip and any of the weight goes away. Give anyone a 1.5 lb dumbbell with an easy handle on it and they could hold it all day long and not think twice, tablet pose a much more challenging to deal with. Hold it, but don't cover or touch the screen...and it's flat, somewhat slick.

The difference is 4.55 ounces between a Xoom and an ipad2. The original ipad was 1.6 pounds, and no one complained about its weight. The Xoom is the same as the original.

I don't mind the weight at all. When the Xoom 2 comes out and is such ounces lighter, no one will complain about it. Faster and lighter is good.

The diff between iPad 2 and the Xoom again is design and form factor. Weight distribution etc... As I have been in the building business and done some design work an interesting fact about people and our perceptions.

Perfect example of this is the fact the human body can tell the difference in less than .004 inches of movement in a structure specific to deflection. We are a very finely tuned device in tech terms. Small changes can seem rather big to us. That is why designers measure these tablets in ounces and make such a big deal about shaving an few grams off. It does make a difference in how we perceive that device.

I believe a lot of people complained about the weight of iPad original. I think longer battery life is more important than weight.

I think we agree, but are just saying it differently. Or maybe I just said it poorly. Take your pick. ;)

While I haven't gone to the iPad boards, I'm sure I won't find any posts saying it's too light. People can just ify living with the Xoom weight all they want-- feels sturdy, not a toy, etc. Bottom line is, if it was lighter, with no other hints to poor workmanship (flexing, etc.), no one would complain.

I personally would be happier with a lighter and/or thinner Xoom. Do I love the Xoom? No question. But I'd be happier with more.

For any portable device, lighter is going to be perceived as better. Even the iPad 2 and 10.1 will be termed as "heavy" by the 3rd or 4th gen of tablets. Its going to be that way until tablets are on a sheet of paper. Then with implants people will be like "I can't believe people actually had to hold a tablet!"
