I've disabled "automatic date & time". Why are date & time still auto-updating?

Samsung Tab 4. Running Android 5.1.1. Rooted.

In Settings/General/Date&Time, I've disabled auto-update of time by removing the checkmark ✔ from the "Automatic date and time" box.

I change the date to Jan 1, 2036. And the time to 01:00 AM.
Why does the date and time still revert to the current date and time (i.e. March 19 2017, 2:34 PM) ?

The auto-change doesn't happen right away. More like after a minute.

Does the Automatic Date & Time checkbox revert to being checked on? Are you seeing this on the clock in the status bar, or in some 3rd party app?
