I ask this because I would want to take the dock off so it won't entice any idiots to break into my car.

No, it looks like it's meant to be stuck to one place and left there. But the suction cup base sticks to the disc. You can remove the dock leaving just the black disc on your dash.

for my current iphone doc on the dash i used the little plate. i attached the plate with 4 sets of those small hard/heavy duty plastic velcro things they give with your smart tag/speed pass for tolls to attach them to the windshield. it works great!

So they can steal an empty dock that has a value of 40 bucks? I'd understand smashing out your glass if you left the phone in there, but an empty cradle?

I'm not sure where you live Bob Brown, but here in the northeast it's been cold and overcast for a loooooooong time. Today might have been the first day I've seen temps over 40 degrees in a while...

Anyway, despite having a great experience at a local at&t store when I preordered my Atrix - based on past experience and from many people's accounts on here - that may have been a fluke. Anytime I can bypass some doofus at a counter and order my own stuff, I'm going to do that.

That way I can spend my time out of the house in the sunlight, and not in an at&t store

I get ya, but I personally prefer to handle certain business in person instead of over internet, especially if I want to make sure they don't screw up especially with this order......plus, I also love to make a scene and try to get more discounts and perks if I can

I'm with yah, this level when so much is at risk of being screwed up (unlimited data-grandfathered in, roll over minutes, etc...) I'd simply prefer to do it in the store.

Same here. I think they were looking for pawnable stuff, like GPSes, cell phones, guns, or if they're really lucky, drugs or cash. Nothing was taken from my car, but the glovebox was open and everything that was in it was spread out all over the passenger seat and floor.

I only had 2 wheels while I was in school in Seattle. It was wet all the time, but one winter it snowed an unusual amount. I made it all the way to work, then dropped it in the parking lot. Only time I ever laid one down.

Now I live in AK, where it's generally considered t-shirt weather when it gets up to 40 ...and I drive a 4x4.

Back to the question at hand; is there a name for usb cables with audio split out? (I.E. fruitful ebay/google search terms) Would there be a good shot of it working with other android devices, or is it moto only? (Would like cross-compatibility with my girlfriend's inspire 4g).

The Part Number on the package of the usb cable in the vehicle dock box is SKN6394A. I have two docks and both numbers are the same for each.

Also, unlike many who have posted here about this dock, mine came with the dual usb port motorola charger in the box. Both of mine are from the Bell store and if you didn't get the charger in your box then you were ripped off imo.

I can't say if the usb cable is moto only or not. Both usb ends look exactly the same as a normal cable yet there is the audio cable plug in off the full size usb end. I assume they are passing the audio through one of the usb channels since analog and digital can live together on the same wire if done properly.

thanks for the details, unfortunately the part number doesn't yield any hits on google, amazon, ebay, or moto's website so I'll have to keep looking. I plan on building a custom dock to accommodate the otterbox commuter case, but this cable is pretty much step 1. seems a shame to buy the whole OEM dock just for the cable.
