J and K removable disk?????

Hey I was curious...even before I rooted and flashed a ROM on my phone when I sync my phone to the computer via USB I always get two removable disk icons....I figured one was the internal memory card and the other was my external....and both have files on them...but when I load up my file manager that same file path shows everything is empty......anyone have any idea what's going on?
