Hi,

On pages with great deal of javascript, the browser hangs for quite awhile before fully loading a page. This affects the ability to zoom into a text field. It's much quicker with javascript turned off. Just curious if others have turned it off, and if it negatively affected their browsing experience.

Thanks!

That's just how javascript is. There are web pages with heavy javascript that cause slowdowns on my desktop browser (Firefox on a dual-core processor), so it's perfectly understandable to expect a mobile device to sometimes struggle with it.

There's plenty of downsides, but it's more of a matter of if it bothers you.

Most of Google's websites are much worse/unusable without Javascript, for instance. Google Reader, Google Docs, etc, they rely on Javascript for most of their functionality.

Lots of forms use it for validation, sites use it for animation and autocompletion, and some even use it for navigation.

If it doesn't bother you, then by all means leave it off; sites will tell you when they absolutely must have it. But I find it's almost a necessity for me in this day and age.

Well, I eventually ran into the Google issue - many links in Google News wouldn't open without javascript. So it wad a good idea while it lasted. :)
