JB now or wait for OTA

I love ICS, I think it's amazing and it definitely does all the things I need it to do.

I was just wondering if it was first of all worth it to upgrade to Jelly Bean now, and if it was better to wait for the OTA or to install JB from a source.

I really like the google now feature as well as the siri competitor. I think it would even just be fun to ask it questions and play around with that.

Is there a risk of damage or just overall lack of stability.

How long does the process take? What are the pitfalls I should look out for? Should I just not bother and wait for Verizon's stupid politics to finally agree to let the upgrade go?

I had jelly bean on my nexus and I'll tell you its awesome I really didn't find any bugs it worked perfect for me and if your phone is already rooted its pretty quick to install. The only thing I found that didn't work was wifi tether and I use that all the time so I'm back on ics untell that works on jelly bean

You can probably wait and be safe. I rooted and installed a jelly bean rom. It's really cool but nothing I couldn't wait for. The only real noticeable difference is the smoothness, google now, and improve voice recognition. I've been wanting to root for forever which is why I went ahead and did it but if you're on the fence, don't feel pressured to root and install.

Both WiFi tether and USB tether have worked flawlessly in the jelly belly ROM since v3.2, I used WiFi tether earlier today and tethered my desktop computer via USB tether last night while my internet was out, just an FYI.

Jelly bean is great. Very smooth, Google now is a neat feature, although I haven't used it to its full capacity as of yet, and best of all its decently stable for the amount of time the source code has been out. I swear these devs never sleep.

It does have some bugs, for instance I was going to use voice input to write this however when I press the button for it nothing happens at all. And occasionally I will get a force close. Otherwise its been pretty rock solid (I'm on Jelly belly v3.6 at the time of this writing.)

If you are rooted you aren't hurting anything by trying it out. If you are stock and considering rooting for jelly bean I'd probably say just wait it out unless you can't live without the latest and the greatest. Its a good upgrade but like was said before its pretty minor.

So I found the jelly belly rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738197 I was wondering is this for Verizon or GSM only?

Thanks all for your responses. I think I'm going to wait it out. It's not like leaping from ICS to JB is like leaping from froyo to ICS.

I rooted 2 days ago just to try out JB, I'm on Bugless and it runs pretty well so far. But I feel that I will go back to stock once I know the official update is going out OTA.

I just finally rooted my gnex this weekend and put vicious v5 jelly bean ROM on. Everything works including tether (built in app, no pay Verizon prompts) and I can't really tell I'm not on an official ota. I think jellybean is significantly better than ICS. Smoother and the voice recognition, Google now stuff is really quite good. Use wugs toolkit to unlock and root....it basically does everything for you. Then toss ROM manager on your phone and slap some jelly bean on it. It is that simple...really. Not like the old og droid days when rooting took some reading and effort.

Does volume plus work on vicious jellybean v5 now? That's one of the only reasons I went back to ics because low volume was a buzz kill.
