I have a couple days left before my '30 days' ends on the new phone. For the past week I have been toying with the idea of sending it back and ordering an X instead.

So here is the question I post to you all. Why should (or shouldn't I) I stick with the Fascinate?

I'm not interested in rooting my phone to get it to the latest OS so having the ability or not for that isn't something that concerns me.

Talk to me.

Well im not here to convince you of anything because in the end you like what you like.

But what i can do is i can tell you my experience. My First phone was a droid X when i first got it i loved it the screen was huge and it felt good in my hand. When running applications the phone was very fast which was great. But the things i didnt like was all the bloatware it came with and 3 different conflicting ways to connect to my pc which was kind of a pain. Also the UI was super laggy from unlocking the phone to opening the app drawer was just so choppy.

Then the Fascinate came out and the screen was so great looking that i had to have one so i bought one from Craigslist. Right off the back the screen was so good looking it actually made my X screen, although bigger, it just looked so dull;the more i looked at the fascinate the less i wanted to look at the X. Despite the fact Fascinate did not have froyo it was much smoother of a UI just feels like everything responds when i want it to. Although the phone is not as big, its still a great size yet the phone fit in my hand better. Even down to the way the Fascinate manages its media files is better, files are where they should be.. on the X pictures were everywhere.

I recently sold off the X because i just never used it anymore . I dont think i can ever go back to a dull looking LCD. But im sure everyones mileage will vary.

I am super happy to make the Fascinate my main phone but again its just my opinion

Thanks for the response.

I really like the hardware and the screen of the Fascinate. The size difference between the two devices isn't enough to sway me - although it is preventing me from wanting to go to the Incredible.

My roommate has an X and I have been comparing the two. While the screen on the Fascinate does really pop, it is a little more blue - I'm thinking the over saturation of the colors is causing some of that.

I have noticed that the unlock screen does have a little lag on the X but the I haven't noticed any lag on the app drawer or difference in the two phones with other functions.

Part of me is lazy in that I already have the phone and I should just hang with it because eventually it will be updated to 2.2 (year to be determined). But I have been burned in the past with buying into a cool device only to be ignored as a consumer when the company stopped developing for the device when their newer devices came out.

The thing is I don't think one could go wrong with either phone, they are both quick kick-ass, I just want to make sure that I have a device that support will not just drop off the face of the earth 6 months after it is released.

i seriously , seriously doubt that they are just not wanting to help or not trying to help, these phones are super capable to have more updates in software hardware wise they are not to far from the Nexus S . they are obviously trying to update phones around the world but are having problems for whatever reason. Im sure they will get it resolved and learn from their mistakes with android especially since they plan on having such a big year next year.

As far as the blue tint i have a very good idea of what is happening with that since i develop this technology myself. I dont know for sure but like i said i have an idea since Samsung wont give us exact details of their screens. but here is my theory.

Blue is the shortest lived color and hardest to work with in almost any display industry. While OLED technology is good enough to manufacture it is still being developed. Blue in the OLED industry lives the least longest so in order to make it live longer i believe they are making it thicker so it doesnt die as quickly.

So that you understand how white is created Red green and blue need to be equal output to make a true white. So since this is an acceptable white by industry standards they were able to produce it and maintain the lifetime of the screen. If you dont sit there and compare it against other whites its not noticable but when side by side yeah its noticable then its always in your head lol.

Honestly, the Fascinate runs just fine on 2.1, and unless being able to store apps to your SD card or full flash support is critical to you, people often make Froyo out to be more than it really is. Contrary to what some disgruntled people will tell you, I am absolutely certain the Fascinate will get Froyo, and pretty confident it will in the future also be upgraded to Gingerbread.

But you are right, I don't think you could go wrong with either phone, they're both solid devices that are workhorses. It's really going to come down to some of the differences, screen size, sAMOLED, Froyo out of the box vs. Eclair, etc.

I owned an X from day of launch to literally yesterday, and in that time I can tell you my personal problems with the X.

1. Unlock Screen: Just like everybody else's complaints, mine was terrible, you would swipe the bar over, and it would stick and just not unlock. Or you would swipe it over and the phone would take a good 5 seconds just to bring up your home screen.
2. Motoblur or w/e you want to call it: Motoblur is so laggy on that phone its ridiculous, I immediately found myself installing Launcher Pro on the phone, followed by purchasing the full application.
3. Overheating: For whatever reason, the X when running multiple apps in the background followed by surfing the web, my phone would heat up in my hand, and by using a laser thermometer I found that the phone was actually upwards of 100 degrees Fahrenheit in my hand. As an experiment when I was having frequent overheating, I downloaded ATK just to kill non necessary apps/games in the background, I could actually prevent the phone from overheating.

Upon grabbing the Fascinate I noticed that the screen is far superior, its much easier to root and flash ROM's and such/ not that we have a full stable kernel yet but once we do it'll be great, Thats something you'll never get with the X. Touchwiz is much better than Blur, and on top of that bing isn't all that bad. In fact I don't much notice the difference, and overall the phone is much quicker. My Quadrant scores with the Fascinates custom ROM are even higher than the Nexus one with Froyo.

Thanks for the comments so far.

I do realize that I might be getting a more biased response asking in the Fascinate forum and that had I made the same post in the X forum the responses would have been different. However, I wanted to give the fans a shot at pointing out the advantages that I might be overlooking in case I am starting to hyper-focus on the bad. I think between whatever people post here and what is bouncing in my head I should come to some reasonable conclusion.

The blue is still a little distracting. As a photographer I stare at images all day and make color adjustments as needed so I might be a little more sensitive to the color on the screen. Trying to get the right white balance on images and then glancing over at the phone I see a cool toned screen. This isn't a deal breaker, just one of the items on the pro/con list.

One of the things that does worry me a little is the issues that seem to be popping up with the release of 2.2. If they are able to get 2.3 running on basically the same set of hardware with the Nexus then why the issues with the older OS that has been out for a lot longer? I'm not a developer so I don't fully understand the back-end of things and wouldn't begin to pretend otherwise, it is just a little worrisome.

Yeah, the phone is zipping along just great with 2.1, but I'm starting to see apps that are requiring 2.2 to function pop up more. And then there are the apps that have extra capability or design that are lost with 2.1 (gmail, maps, etc.)

Trust me I know that when 2.2 is released to the US Fascinate device it will be kicking some serious ass in performance I believe, I just hope that the delay in getting it to the devices doesn't make it the last viable upgrade to the phone - ie because of the extended time it is taking to get the update to the phone Samsung/Verizon focus their attention on a more recent device upon release.

But thanks again for the comments - and keep 'em coming. I know I should make a decision and stick with it, but I just want to make sure it is the right decision for me. Both have their place and both are great devices.

So, yes we are def a little biased. I mean you are asking people who made the decision to stock with the fascinate for their opinion. 2 out of 3 response have come from DX converts , I mean come on lol look at my name.

I was unhappy with my DX experience compared to my fascinate.even the person I sold it to finds it buggier than his OG droid . Also if you watch the forums there are many more DX problem forums than fascinate.

I can't defend 2.2 thing. I mean for me I've had both and their is not much more the DX can do that the fascinate can't . Maybe flash but I always kept it disabled . DX spec wise has a better camera but I think fascinate takes a better picture. As for white balance, what you see on the screen is not what the camera takes. And ill take contrast ratio over a slight temp change in white any day.

Any how. Its up to you. Its a big purchase and I would be amiss if I didn't do my best to direct you towards a decision you may be more happy with.

But in the end its up to you. I bought both then decided but I realize not everyone is crazy or fanatical when it comes to android as I am lol.

With this post I rest my case. Good luck my friend and I hope you are happy with whatever you choose

Sent from my Fascinate- I finally got Tapatalk not even a WP7 will be able to keep my face out of the phone now!

DroidXcon - trust me I am taking what you and others are saying into consideration with ask this. I know there if no perfect device out there so the quest for something with no issues is pointless, you go with what works for you the most and go from there.

I know the coolness of the screen color doesn't affect the pictures taken with the camera. I seas just speaking in general with what I view everyday for work and then what I see on the phone. But speaking of cameras on these two devices I too think the fascinate takes better pictures. People get all tired up with the megpixels thinking that more is always better but that isn't always the case.

I do appreciate everything that you have said in here.

I too was worried about the blue tint of the screen. I actually didn't notice it until I compare it to other phones. Then I became obsessed with it for while and now don't even give it a second thought. Especially when I compare the blacks to other phones. Other phones black background looks gray compared to the Fascinate.

The 2.2 thing is starting to bother me now that we're 2 versions behind. I'm a developer, and I'll compile my apps to work from 1.6+, but there are features in each SDK that I want to use, but can't because some phones are on older versions. I also do iPhone development, and while not everyone upgrades to the latest OS when it's available, I at least know it's available to them.

What sold the Fascinate over the DX for me was the look. It's a great looking phone, feels good in my hand and slides easily in and out of my pocket. And it's something different. It seems like on Verizon you either get a Droid, or the red headed step child Galaxy S phone.

I have yet to *physically* know someone with a good Motorola experience. They tend to be the cheapest of phones with the most amount of problems. I had the choice of any Verizon smart phone and I certainly picked the Fascinate for a good reason.

Ill back the DX. At first I wasn't too thrilled about buying a Motorola phone and it did look cheap to me at first but I have not had any problems with the phone and it performs amazing compared to other phones I've owned. Yea the lock screen might take a second or two but in my experience most phones do. I do experience a lag every now and then but hardly anything to make me not like this phone. If I had to go out and buy a new phone it would still be the DX but that's just my personal preference. The only thing I didn't like about the phone was the look of the back of the phone with the Motorola logo and Google logo and the cheap looking plastic construction. Easily fixed with a case for the phone. I have a white silicon smooth rubber case on the phone which gives it the appearence of the iPhone. Until Verizon puts out another large touchscreen device like the DX, I'm sticking with this phone.

I have been back and forth between the X and Fascinate and i am back to the Fascinate and more than likely sticking to it. The screen on this phone just blows the x out of the water, it looks so much better. Other than that, i don't get the lag issues on the fascinate like i did on the X and it just runs smoother. Add to the fact that Motoblur is horrible and thats about it. I will be with the fascinate for a while i think.
