https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...le-maps-dark-mode-on-android-auto-190710.html describes my dilemma. Yesterday, June 13, my Android Auto google maps was in my preferred (light/day) mode when I left home in the morning, then in the afternoon started in dark mode - despite the settings through the car calling for it to always be in day mode.
My workaround - impractical to do all the time - was to put the car in park, access the android auto general settings on the car, switch the mode to night mode, save, then switch back to day and save. The setting gets remembered, but only until the next time Android Auto starts.
This morning I went into google maps on my phone and set it to "always light mode" (phone's default is all apps in dark mode). I'll see if that works.
Better fixes out there?

EDIT: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/...aps-dark-mode-bug-on-android-auto-190932.html evidently contains the current "best" fix, which is to roll back to a prior version of google maps for Android. I'm instead hoping that the fine minds at google fix this obvious bug.
