Are high end android phones being released to close together? Think about it the Droid inc was released a full month before the evo then the Droid x came right on its heels. Now the galaxy s series phones released although no official word on Verizon and sprint's version. I understand that its mostly carriers battling here but at this pace don't this cause great phones like the Droid inc to be over looked and forgotten in the eyes of the average consumer? Mind you this is just a question but couldn't this lead to problems in the future?

I agree with you, I work at vzw and I am almost tired of all the new phones, people are waiting for the newest and then get mad when a new one comes out a month later and they want to keep exchanging them out. We are also loosing sales because they cannot keep supply up and people want it in the store today, since we cannot offer that they are just ordering it online and then coming to us complaining its not the latest and greatest again.

As someone who's very anxiously awaiting the Fascinate from Verizon, they're aren't being released quick enough. ;)

In all seriousness though, I don't have a problem with all of the phones being released and wish that they would release ones they already have. I really hate it when the carriers hold back releases to try and make additional sales on a single device. My take is that the consumer is going to buy the phone that's best for them (or at least you'd hope it would be that way). And with the more options and variety, the consumer will be able to pick a phone that best suits their need versus trying to make whatever phone is available fit their need.

For example, I have a BB Tour, and I'm a former Storm user. One main reason I switched from a Storm to the Tour was I wanted a physical keyboard. On Verizon, the top-end Android phones (DInc and DX) are all touchscreen. So, I'd rather have the choice of a top-end phone with a keyboard (e.g., Droid 2) than trying to fit the DInc or DX into what I like. And in so doing, I able to to get a phone that better suits me, plus I end up having a better user experience with the phone. That'll help keep me coming back.

I also think that regardless of when the phones are released, the carriers will get their sales. It may not be focused on a single device, but, regardless there will be sales. For instance, if the DInc and DX were released at the same time, I believe that the total sales of the two devices would be very close to what they were when released separately. But, in this case, the consumer has more options and can thus make a better decision, and will most likely return to the carrier the next time because of a better experience.
