I'm getting a Xoom, my buddy here at work has the Viewsonic G Tablet and you know what, it's pretty awesome. It's already a Tegra 2 and with honeycomb will probably be a great tablet.

I love my G Tab. Really fast and responsive once it's hacked.

What's your level of know how? Do you feel comfortable with rooting and loading a custom ROM. It's fairly easy and both Android Central and XDA Developers have great step by step walkthroughs.

I'm currently running a ROM called VeganTab. It's still in beta, but very usable and very close to a release candidate. It gets rid of the TapnTap UI that Viewsonic saddled us with and gives you a stock Android feel, with a few intelligent tablet UI decisions (like soft buttons for menu, home and back in the status bar).

Here are the Walkthroughs.

Android Central Walkthrough

XDA Developers Walkthrough

I recommend the XDA one only because it has been updated more recently than the one here.

There have been some people who have had hardware problems with the G Tab though. I suggest you look it over very carefully and make sure that the hardware is in good shape before you proceed. PM me or post here again if you have questions about getting the ROM loaded.

Good job. Congrats. It's a pretty hackable device. Even more so than my Nexus One to be honest, although my level of confidence with this has gotten much higher since I rotted and loaded my first ROM on my N1.

I've been loading custom stuff on the DX for several months and while it's OK, not having a locked bootloader like on the gTab is awesome. Custom Kernels are great too!

Definitely. I love the openness of this device. The only niggle I have with this device is the screen. There's a thread on XDA where several of us are trying to find a workable replacement for the stock screen. We're hoping that with the onslaught of new 10.1" tablets, we can find a suitable IPS screen. Or at last something that didn't come out of a netbook.

Iam new just got tablet before I got tab I think I read where you can leave it stock and still get the real amarket and olly change your tapntap. Am I right or did I read wrong. If right can someone guide me step by step to do this. Thanks in advance

Go to the XDA gtablet forum and search for TNT enhancement pack. A simple download will do it. EZ to followup step by step. I also suggest Titanium Backup.

Experience with new G-Tab

I am a neophyte, but went to Sears and asked to see the boxed tablet. I decided to buy it on the spot. Brought it home. Put clockwork mod on it. Got the android market on it. It is limited but I found a ADW Launcher rip off that works great. Everything is fast. Google voice works. Can't get Youtube to work yet, but will when I decide what mod to use. Does anyone have any advice on that ?

I'm using VEGAn 5.1, and have had no complaints. Obviously, after flashing the rom, search for a thread on XDA that will give you the market fix and flash fix. I also had a limited market until doing the market fix, and now it seems full. My litmus test to seeing if the market fix worked is searching for the app "ADW-EX". If it shows up you're golden. If it doesn't, you aren't fixed!

I went to site , it ask for a build of 3389, when I look at my tab it states tapui version-1.1-3588 and Kernel verson 2.6.32.9-00000-10.8.2-dirty. so how do I know which pack to chose(sign new to the game) thanks in advance
