Even though I have to give it back soon, I just had to see how much better the Charm can be when rooted.

I'll see what can and can't be done and report!

Reasons I root: screenshot, adbwireless (USB driver isn't always reliable), Titanium Backup, removing bloatware, etc. At least with Universal Androot you can remove root later which is good for warranty issues.

Right now, seeing about adjusting the dpi pitch of the screen and unbranding it. Will probably pick one of these up for the wife when I have to send the review unit back. Silly woman doesn't want a G2, Nexus One or a Vibrant because they don't come in purple lol.

Can you remove MOTOBLUR completely?

No, however you can skip registering Motoblur in initial setup though support guys like Mark at the Motorola forums says you shouldn't. PFFT if there was a way to remove the Motoblur UI, I'd be all over it, but for now the only plus I see with it is being able to resize widgets in any alternative launcher (except LauncherPro unless you buy the plus version).

Got a Q, how much free RAM does the CHARM have? Read that 2.1 on Nexus One has masked some RAM which were not available until 2.2.

You can type "free" in the terminal and find out.

While we're at it, could you dump the "dmesg" and "cat /proc/meminfo" outputs as well...? :)

Don't have busybox installed, not bothering to either, and I had a screenshot of the CPU anyways. It has 512MB ram but technically 388MB usable.

I'm probably going to get rid of this Charm pretty soon, not happy with the way Motorola has been, and I've had Motorola phones since the mid 90s.
