I use a S10+, but follow this board also because I'm intrigued with the 7 Pro.

But one thing that confuses me, is that with all the talk about the camera just being OK, and the phone using the same lenses as other flagships, and it's mainly a software issue.

My question is, why not just download a different camera APP in the Playstore?

There are some really good ones in there, which are made to take great pictures, so why not just download one of those and use it?

There's no reason not to, except that some people aren't aware that they can. (iPhones are like that - you use what you get - so many people are trapped into that mindset.)

Even iPhones have many different camera apps available. :-p

A different app can only do so much.

Unless it gives you access to things that the stock camera doesn't like focus peaking and a full manual mode and manual controls for video which most phone outside of LG devices lack. Then a different app can do quite a lot.

It can't alter what the ISP does, which is where a lot of the issues with different cameras lie. It can't alter the majority of the processing of the pictures, because that isn't part of the camera app's software. It can help, yes, but it isn't some magical fix.
