just finished recovery, want to root again

wiped cache, wiped data. says there is no file or directory in sdcard. which should i use to start fresh? i'm new to this so i am looking for any and all help to do it right from scratch.reboot kept looping, so i am back in recovery.

can someone please help. i am new to this stuff and jumped in over my head too quickly. now i want to root again but this time i am starting from recovery mode. please point me in the right direction. this is my only cell phone and i try to use it for emergencies only. i need something that is rooted but stable. my phone is optimus v slider. just point me to right forum or post. thank you.
