I thought I had done fairly good research on the G6 before I bought it. One thing I can't believe I missed is there is no notification LED on the G6. Apparently all of the notifications are handled through the always on display. But as it is now, I can't see it well enough to read it. I haven't got a notification yet to see what happens. Does the screen get brighter? Is it just a icon on that screen? I just read a pretty lengthy exchange on another forum with part of the people saying they can't believe that no notification light is such a big deal and the other part saying it is a big deal.

Also when charging the phone do you get some sort of notification that it's finished or do you just have to go back and manually check it? When I charged mine tonight it didn't do anything when it was finished.

I read that there was a problem with the phone sending a notification 2 hours before an alarm that you have set. I set a test alarm and that didn't happen but we will see what happens when my normal alarm is supposed to go off in the morning.

I've got 14 days with Verizon to return it and exchange it for something else if i can't figure out how everything is supposed to work. I would rather not do that so I'm trying to find all of the info I can on it.

Give it some time and I think you'll fall in love with the G6. What phone were you coming from?

As for the notification LED for me I never use it and always turn it off so it's not a negative for the G6. And you can turn on or off the always on display, and get all your notifications on the lock screen like normal.

And no, once your phone is full charged I don't think there's any sound or notification. But the phone will stop charging.

As for the issue of sending a notification 2 hrs before an alarm. Never heard of that issue and never experienced it myself

But if you're unsure definitely play with it like crazy within those 14 days. I hate to have an unhappy LG G6 owner lol.

The AOD can be changed to a brighter setting. I thought I would miss the led, but am surviving totally fine without it.

The early alarm clock notification is a silent notification. This is something that I actually find quite useful. If you wake up before your alarm, you can just dismiss the alarm for the day instead of waiting for it to go off first.

With regards to the battery full notification, I'm not sure if it makes a sound when full, as mine is always on silent when at home. But it does give the normal pop up notification telling you that it is full.

I am using G6 since April ans totally love it... I am use to Nokia phones having glance screen and no notification light... I think Aod way better than notification light.. Just a glance and u know what has arrived.. But with notification light I am not always sure what's it for.. And I have never had any alarm issue..
G6 is a fab phone I am sure u will love it...

That brighter setting does put a pretty big hit on battery usage though. I did a little testing when I first got mine and at the stock settings, AOD sips power for the most part... a few tenths of a % an hour in drain. But turn on the 'bright' setting and that added 1/1.5% an hour to the idle drain. Doesn't sound like much, but remember this is 'Always On' so that amounts to a quarter of a full charge over the course of a day...

AOD does utilize the ambient light sensor, so it gets brighter/darker... but they keep it dark for a reason, unlike AMOLED displays that use an AOD system, the G6 has an IPS LCD, so it has to fire up the entire screen... so the dimmer the screen, the less power it uses. I do wish they incorporated something like Google's Ambient Display though, and had the display get brighter if you lifted the phone, etc.

As for the LED, the last two phones I've owned didn't really bother to use the LED that they had...so I didn't care.

But back to the OP... yeah, this is a great phone... I'm having a little bit of a love/hate with the camera at the moment, but the rest of the thing is stellar.

I missed the notification LED for a bit - on my old phone I had been using lightflow so that I could customize its color for different notifications. I find that easier to see at a glance, but the benefit of the AOD method is it can display multiple different notification icons which is harder for lightflow to do. So I don't think the lack of notification LED is a major shortcoming (but I do wish LG had implemented one, not in the bezel but in a clever way in the frame - see LG Optimus G and Samsung Eternity for two different implementations).

The upcoming alarm notification seems to be a standard thing that many of us have never even noticed and that bothered exactly one person. Not some kind of bug or bad design choice.

And when it comes to charging I'm not sure what you're expecting, but you can use various 3rd party automation apps (AutomateIt, tasker, etc.) to give you whatever kind of notice you want, if the phone doesn't give you enough.

I keep the AOD on the dim setting which is fine for me.

I have to agree with you with the camera, it doesn't have me fully convinced. At times I get great images, but often as not, I'm hitting the delete button. If you're in to taking pics of flowers, then the camera is flawless, but if it's a moving object then burst mode and keeping your fingers crossed is the only safe option.

Accu battery has an alarm for charging.

I saw one complaint about the alarm going off 2 hours before and it was unexplained..

As for the LED notification light, that's something you'll have to get used to.

I had a G4 before this G6.

The 2 hour pre alarm thing didn't happen this morning either so I don't know what that was all about. My alarm just went off as normal

I set a test notification before work this morning and I also got my first couple of text messages. I've got it set for sound + vibration. The calendar notification test did about what my G4 did. Gave some sort of a click sound then the greeting chime that I used for all notifications and texts. I looked at the AOD and couldn't make out if anything was there or not. I carry my phone on my hip with a belt clip and it's in a case. When I got the text message I could barely hear the noise and didn't feel the vibrate at all. I work in a noisy environment especially this time of year and might miss the sound which has happened before with the G4. But at least I could feel the vibration when that happened. It seems like the newer phones get the weaker and weaker the vibration feels. Even with me holding it in my hand and testing out the vibration it was on the weak side.

It's just much easier with the phone on the other side of the room to tell if you've got a notification if there is a blinking light on it. With the G6 you would have to be looking directly at it to know if you've got something. When I'm home my phone stays on the coffee table or on the nightstand when I'm in bed. I don't constantly have it in my hands playing with it. I guess if you do have it in your hands every 30 seconds or so like most people seem to do these days the AOD notification would work fine.

I didn't load any of my apps on it yet just to see if I can get a basic hang on the phone first. Light Flow is certainly useless now :)

I kinda got used to the fact that there is no notification LED, i do miss it but hey it's fine.. As for the alarm i use 2 alarms. One for the job during the week, and the other for weekend and neither of them let me down so far. My just do beep when is finished with charging. On always on when u get notifications from certain app for ex. whats app you get to see the huge whapp icon over the part of the screen that is contained for always on info, and then it gets back to normal informations but again you see little icon of the missed information.

Yes it's just a glance but that's if you have the phone in your hands most of the time. If it's lying on a table or something it's hard to make out that tiny dim icon and I don't have the best eyes in the world anymore. :D

What were you expecting on this? The complaint we're talking about is a completely silent notification that comes up before the alarm goes off. If you were sleeping until your alarm went off, you'd never know it was there. The purpose is so you can dismiss the alarm easily if you no longer need it to go off. It is not a case of the alarm going off early, or a notification making a sound/vibration prior to the alarm. The person who complained just didn't like the extra notification AT ALL.

And I'm definitely with you on the vibration strength. I use textra and have it set to one of the more vibrate-y settings and I still miss texts with the phone in my pocket (usually if I'm walking).

On the AOD you are not going to see full notifications. Just small icons for them next to the battery meter. And I mean small. Combine that with the relative dimness of the AOD and it's easy to miss the status LED... but again, I got used to it after not too long.

Speaking of the camera which I haven't tried out yet. Are there any tips you've learned that you can pass along? Because I've got a good camera test coming up this weekend. An English Premier League exhibition match Saturday afternoon and then a concert Sunday night. One outside then one inside. That should tell me a lot about what the camera can do.

That's just something I read about. I wasn't expecting anything since it was several months ago and that's what I got, nothing which is good. I wish I had never brought it up now.

I use Textra also but haven't loaded it or any other app of mine on the phone yet. I guess I should go ahead and load it and Swiftkey up because Verizon Messenger and the stock keyboard, I don't like.

I would be interested in finding something that would maybe give some sort of noise when it's hits full charge.

The lack of led bugged me a little at 1st then I installed an app from the PlayStore called 'Screen Notifications' by Luke Korth. It turns on the screen for 10 secs or whatever you set it to and shows your notifications on the lockscreen pretty much exactly as the iPhone does. It made a big difference for me as I like to see notification as the come in and not miss them til I check the always on display

Mine's on a table about every day and i can easily tell the time and notifications...... even with the sun shining upon it lol. Plus you can tell what notifications you have instead of guessing with the light. If you can't see it at all use the bright settings but like someone said above it will drain the battery.
