Just got a new HTC 10; haven't rooted in 2 1/2 years, so...

I have mine rooted and I couldn't be happier. It's so freaking awesome, the leedroid ROM is amazing and has different power profiles you can set up when you flash it.

However if you want to play Pokemon Go and use android pay. There is a process to getting those working. Google is now using safety net(I believe that's what it's called). It detects root status and breaks certain apps. There are some work arounds available if those are must need apps. I could careless.

As far as updating the best way to do the updates is to go s-off. What that allows you to do is directly flash the new firmware to your device via fastboot with out returning to stock.

If you are familiar with rooting then I'm guessing you are familiar with XDA. All of the information is all over the HTC thread.

As far as the sound might be the case I don't have that issue.

I don't play games on my phone; I'm too old (or busy) for that, and I don't use Google Pay. I am quite familiar with XDA, having rooted my HTC One M8 with one of that phone's most popular ROMs. I just didn't keep up with the updates, so for over 2 years I was sitting on an old version of Android.

I'll check out the ROM to which you allude. Now I just have to read up on the easiest way to root, get S-OFF, etc. It's easy to forget when one hasn't done it in two and a half years. 😜

The HTC transfer app is great - takes everything across including screensavers, wallpapers etc.

Well, not quite everything. I used it to move stuff from my HTC One M8 to my HTC 10, but there were still things I had to manually download to my 10, most importantly my apps. Only a handful transferred, and I had to go to My Apps in the Google Play store and one by one re-install my apps onto the 10. That was what took the most time.

Compared to the other backup tools I use the last time I swapped phones, it was miraculous! I think a lot of times I have to be read downloaded , at least for those of us who are just using included manufacturing software and not rooting.

For the best 2 Roms are viper and leedroid. I switch back and forth every couple weeks.
