So, I just got my Epic 4G a few hours ago and so far I'm liking it. Tell me though, did I make the right choice?

And what do I need to know about this phone as I'm still semi-new to Android.

-Tips?
-Tricks?
-Anything past 2.2.1?

Thanks guys.

I can say we have had multiple "flashable" leak builds of Gingerbread. Nothing is official yet, and no word from Samsung when it will become available.

Otherwise the Epic 4g is a great device, it still has a lot of life left in it for most users and still holds it own among many devices.

Yes, there is more past 2.2.1. Android 2.2.1 (Froyo EC05) is the most current official build.

As for the rest I'll let the regular members in this section run wild with this one :)

Mine says FROYO EC05 in "build number" but says 2.2.1 in "software version" and when I try to update it tells me I am up to date.

Is that normal?

Yes you are up to date.. Sorry I added an extra "2.2.2" to the "2.2.1" .. OP updated.

If and when Samsung releases Gingerbread your build number will be 2.2.3 or higher.

It's funny, I just swapped my Epic 4G to an Evo 4G.

I miss the Epic screen, it seemed much more vibrant in color than the Evo's. Not really missing anything else though. Evo seems much snappier than the Epic did (although that might just be because it's clean)

What are you missing from the EVO? Maybe then we can help. If your device is working fine as-is, then you are golden. You got the Epic just at the right time, too, because the next major software update is being rolled out very soon (next few days).
