Hi all,

I'm a new driod owner, just got the bionic. Love it so far. But I have some questions I'm hoping someone could answer.

Does rooting the phone void the warrentry?

what are the pros and cons of rooting?

any problem with deleting some of the useless app that are preloaded on the driod?

What are the best ways for extending the battery life? I usually been turning off wireless and BT and GPS when not needed, bit didn't know if there were any other tricks out there.

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions for anything else regarding the driod.

thanks all!

get the extended battery. got mine on sale for about $25. a MUST.

I can go over 24 hours, with 4G, and moderate usage.

thanks, could I ask where you got he battery? Do I really need to pay for a Motorola battery or will an oem one do just fine?

Dave and I both got our extended battery at Verizon. They were (and maybe still are) on sale. They were pushing them with the Bionic.

IIRC, they said the extended battery was going to be on sale for 1 month after the release (don't know if that is really true). If that is, then the poster should probably buy the extended battery today or tomorrow before the time is up.

I don't know how successful you would be at finding a non-Motorola battery with a cover that fits for under $30 anywhere else. Let alone one from a reputable seller.

Congratulations on your new phone. I just recently got the bionic also. I ordered the battery pack charger with the extra battery. I also have the care kit and charger. Between those things and my desk dock, I should be able to get by.

I have already bought a second ext batt in anticipation of my wife getting a bionic next week, as I'm not confident she would be getting the sale price next week. :)

I bought an additional standard Motorola Bionic battery from Amazon to carry around with me. I did this with my OG Droid as well. I don't like the additional weight of the extended battery. When the yellow bar starts to show on the battery meter I switch out. I've had my Bionic now since it was introduced and my battery is now getting close a full day before I come close to putting it on the charger. It really depends on how much you use it and how you use it. I do turn off 4G when I feel I don't need it ( like when the phone is sitting on my desk at work unused all day).

Welcome, hope you enjoy your phone. With regards to rooting, run a search brother! There are plenty of very informative articles and forum posts to walk you through the need-to-knows. Here's 2 good ones to get you started:

I would check out the Rooting forum for stuff about that. But yeah, it voids the warranty, but if you're smart they won't catch you. It's hard to tell if you did anything if you have a problem and unroot it before you walk in and try to fix it.
As for battery life, I have a task manager (which you really shouldn't use and I rarely do), Juice Defender is helpful as it turns off my data usage when the screen is off, and I also have an LTE switch (well it's a shortcut) that I use sometimes to turn off 4G when I'm not using it.
