I'd like to know what are the MUST have accessories and apps for the X. I searched for this in the main page search box and in the forums search box and didn't find anything. I'm brand new to this site so please excuse me if I didn't execute my search for answers properly. Thank you in advance for the help!

For me accessories are: a good case that is easily removable so I can use the car mount accessory.

Congrats on making the jump. What took you so long? ;)

man I wish there was a case that was slim enough to actually work with the car mount or desktop docks... so irritating hvaing to remove the case every time I put a phone in a cradle.

i'm sorry that you crossed over to a product that isn't being suported by the manufacture and keeping there customers inthe dark and on top of that the end of life for both the X and d2 is just around next spring in march but i bet the verizion rep didn't mention that fact

This has to be one of the biggest nonsensical run on sentences I've ever seen.

Ignore that helpless post....a few apps that I have and love are

Appbrain-easy adding and removal of apps
Lookout-a damn near must have. Provides anti-virus protection, as well as backs up your information. Search the main sure, there was a great article about this app a few weeks ago.
Fantasy guru-you use yahoo! fantasy sports, get this app now!
Nfl mobile-pretty self explanatory...
Hurricane hub-if you live anywhere on the east coast like I do, this is a helpful little guy. I guess its not bad for the gulf coast, or if you're generally interested in hurricanes
If you have verizon fios I highly recommend the mobile remote and dvr manager apps...
Espn score center-its just flat out better than score mobile, and comes with a much better looking widget

Hope these help you out, and congratulations. I switched from a blackberry too, and haven't missed it even a little

I'm also a blackberry convert. One of the things I missed most was the blackberry one-click sound profiles.
If you want this functionality, download Quick Profiles. Great little free app.

Power search is another app that works like the blackberry search app. Oddly enough, there is no way to search the Google calendar with the built in app or device search. If you use your calendar a lot and have the need to search for entries, this is another good app.

Its technology.......... do you really expect a phone to last (not operational wise but as far as being the latest and greatest) for more than a year?

When a phone comes out you have to be smart enough to realize its life cycle is going to be a year MAX..... more like 6-9 months.

no i figure a phone to at least be on the market for at least 6 months before they announced that the death of the device
not weeks after it is available to buy then make consumers wait a month for it.
and then turn around and say oh well were going to make that phone after march.
and we as consumers are stuck in there 1 and 2 yr contracts.

You figured wrong. Technology of smart phones now means that phones will ne on the market 6-8 months before the next best will replace it.
The Droid X will have been on the market for 8 months come March, and just because it is end of life doesn't mean it will no longer be available nor supported, it just wil not continue to be made as the new model will come out.
It doesn't mean your X will no longer be a great phone and still service all your needs.
Do you get equally upset when you buy a new car with a four year loan and they bring out a new model 10 months later (and your current model goes end of life)?
And no one locks you into a contract - that is solely your choice.

You are basing your assumptions on a LEAKED photo of an internal shot from verizon. Has verizon stated anywhere to the public that they are ending the droid x?

To the op: I would say get a brightness control widget (brightness control by curvefish is good) and a vibrate/ring widget. Head over to the apps forums to see people's top fives. As for a case, the seidio innocase (or best buy PT case) is a good one. Personally I have it but will be getting the otterbox which will be shipping later this month.

Awww...that is the first time I've seen you use they're/their/there in the right context. I'm so proud I could cry.

When your contract expires you have the choice not to sign a new 1 or 2 year contract. You probably did though, so you could get the phone cheaper. If you don’t want to be locked into their contract, buy the phone outright and you'll have nothing to worry about.

This was my first venture in to Android (coming from BBs) I would recommend:
Advanced Task Killer free (I know the Dx has one, but for a noob this is much easier to manage)
Beautiful Widgets (or use the stock 'Power Control' under Android Widgets)
Tapatalk (so you can keep an eye on these forums while away from your computer)
Angry Birds lite beta (my favorite game, been playing since day one on the iPhone)
Yahoo Fantasy Football '10 (if you do FFB on Yahoo only)
Handcent SMS is a good messaging app over the stock app
+1 on the ESPN Scorecenter

Is it the change in weather, or does it seem every thread is getting hijacked by mindless 'this phone sucks' posters?

I think its an iPhone conspiracy since Android has been catching up in users for 3 straight quarters.

Yes, sadly, it's starting to feel more like CrackBerry every day.

To the OP...I think the best thing you can do is put LauncherPro Plus on your phone. It makes everything else you do run so much faster and smoother. I'm also a huge fan of the xScope browser.
