Just ordered a Nexus 4 16gb

Long time Apple user...house is full of Apple devices....2013 iMac, 2 iPhone 5's, 2 apple tv's, 2 Airport extremes, 4 iPads.....had a Nexus 7 which I gave to my dad recently after the iPad mini came out.....

I am very engrained into the apple environment and nothing will pull me away, except the fact that I like some of the features that android has to offer.....always was intrigued by the Nexus line.....decided to get a nexus 4 and get an additional line of service via att (or Straight talk) (currently have iphone on verizon) for a bit of versatility....I am used to carrying 2 phones as I have before and only recently switched to 1 phone....hopefully the experience will be a good one.....

I recommend really taking care of your Nexus just in case you want to go back to your iphone. I have seen many friends try android only to go back to iOS. Maybe some iOS converts here can offer some advice. Not easy to break away from Apple. I have many of the same devices except iphone. ipads, apple tvs, ipod touches, Macbooks etc. My wife recently commandeered my ipad 3 so I was in the market for a new full sized table. After looking at Nexus 10, Note 10.1 and ipad 4, I went with the ipad 4. Airplay with apple tv, some games not on android, itunes account with a high balance from gift cards, flawless backup, etc etc so I can understand how it can be difficult to leave apple or google.

Also Google makes a lot of apps available to ipad such as gmail, drive, chrome, calendar so you can still get your google /android fix.

Luckily, I made the break from iphone after 3GS to the Samsung Captivate so I was not so entangled in Apple I could not get out...

But switching from N7 to iPad mini is kinda like a downgrade... didn't your eyes got spoiled by N7 screen? ipad mini isn't sharp as N7

If T-Mobile has decent coverage for your area (on their coverage map), their data speeds are 2 to 3 times faster than att.

This can be a difficult transition, especially if your currently still in love with the iphone. As simple minded as this might sound, just keep in mind that these 2 OS's are completely different, so naturally, things will not be the same...messaging, dialer, calendar, email, apps...it's all different. In the android world, if you don't like the way something works, there are probably a dozen or more similar apps that you can download (most being free) that do the same thing, but might be more to your liking. Youtube has tons of videos that can show you stuff like top android apps, or how to customize this or that.

Straight Talk has stopped selling att micro sims for some time. If you want ST on the att network, you'll need to buy the micro sim on ebay.

It's good to see Apple loyalists be open and try Android. Most Apple fans I talk to are jerks about it and think that nothing can run better or outdo Apple

Speaking of Apple, I've had iPhones since the 3GS and loved them. I liked it so much that I bought two MacBooks because of that first 3GS. I'm sure that was Apples point, get people liking the phone so much that they bought computers and got sucked into the app store and iTunes store. It worked for me. I didn't realize though how limiting some things on the iPhone were until I bought the Nexus 4 and saw that I could transfer pictures and other things from connecting my Nexus 4 to my Mac using bluetooth. I also have a Samsung phone that I bought at Walmart a few months ago that uses Straight Talk. I was wondering how I could get my contacts on there. I was looing at my Nexus 4 and went to my contacts there. I opened the menu and saw the option to share visible contacts. The choices were Bluetooth and some others. I had already paired the Samsung phone when I got the Nexus 4 and so I selected the Bluetooth option and in a minutes, all my contacts were on this Samsung phone too. Why didn't I figure this out when I got my Nexus 4 a month ago?

Why can't Apple allow something so easy and so convenient to happen on an iPhone?

Our household had started down the Apple path - we had multiple iPods (nano, classic, a couple of Touches) and I was definitely coveting the iPad since it first launched. A few things set me on this course - I started out on Blackberry and transitioned to a Droid X, which offered me more of the control I wanted on my phone (I want my phone to be more of a computing device than an appliance...although either use case is totally legitimate). Also my wife and I really got to detest iTunes, which was really getting crushed under the weight of its own bloat until this last redesign. Once I got that first Android device and started getting apps for it we were then invested in two different ecosystems, and it was no longer a decision based on what we were tied to, but what better suited our needs.

In our case Android won out, and now even our daughters PMP runs Android. But different people have different expectations from their mobile OS; kudos to the OP for giving both sides a fair shake, I hope he's happy with whatever he ends up with.

I started down the path of apple with ipods....and my itunes collection has grown extensively, to the point of 11k songs and I cant even count the number of movies I have....I think my downfall has been movies....I bought so many blu ray's with digital copies for itunes....mostly for my kids but a good few for me too....I do wish that google had a better movie environment....my son has an ipad mini but he also has access to all his movies, which is big for him (and me). I think the android environment lends itself well to me as a person who likes to tinker with his devices and unleash the full power and set things up the way I like it as opposed to how I should like it...since I have been used to carrying 2 phones around, I had no problem keeping up with the iphone while still enjoying android....to previous comments on screen quality on the mini vs Nexus 7 I had..well...its a bit worse, but not terribly, and to me, to have the imessage capability on the ipad has been huge. Plus my company is heavily into the ipad environment, and my marketing materials for work are all ipad based...with little to no support for android...so having an ipad is essential for me. Thanks for all the support on my decision to add android to my portfolio, I hope this is a good experience that brings me to a broader base that allows me some greater versatility....I will never leave my mac experience for windows again, but phones and tabs are a different story....

Ive had an iPhone since the 3G came out. We've had numerous iPods as well. We also bought a MacBook and iMac, and then the GF bought an iPhone as well. We loved the integration of IOS with all our devices and how easy everything was. We moved on to the iPhone 4 and were quite happy with them. She still is happy with hers.
I personally just became bored and wanted to try something new and bigger. It was really a toss up for me between the Nexus 4 and the Nokia Lumia 920. I even struggled for a few days after I got the N4 because I really wanted the 920 for its camera and 32gb of space. But I couldn't get over the lack of apps that I would want. So I chose the N4, and I am actually really happy I did. I love this phone, its a good size and its does everything I want and more. The Google services integration is also a HUGE bonus. The fact that its unlocked and I got it for free on a 2 year renewal also helped make the decision easier.
The one and only thing I miss about the iPhone is the iPod function. The N4 can also be used for music but there is not enough space for most of my music, and I dont want to flood the phones memory. I know there is a cloud function but I dont want to have to stream all the time, I have 6gb of data but service is choppy some areas I travel.
BUT, I have an iPod for this, so it's not too big a deal.
And otherwise, I wouldnt trade my N4 for a new iPhone 5 (and it has been offered).

I'm a long time apple user also (Have multiple Apple devices) and just switched to nexus 4 from the iPhone 5 (had the 4 and 4s before that) and absolutely love it. I have no idea why I waited so long before switching from the iPhone to the nexus.
