Just ordered on Amazon paying full price for the Verizon version. Having read a few threads about the diminished battery life from the last update, is there a way to Prevent the OS update from installing? Do we have the option to update or not or does the phone automatically update itself as soon as a Sim is inserted and powered up?

It will not do it automatically. You have to accept it. If you root you can freeze the ota updater.

I updated mine as soon as it came out of the box, so I can't comment on battery life before the update. However, I can say that I don't think that's a valid concern with this device. Were people getting 36 hours before and "only" 34 now? LOL!

My battery has been fine both before and after the update. I wouldn't sweat it.

That's good news, thanks! I remember reading many comments about how some users felt they lost 10-20% of battery life after the last update. I think it was because the update was not allowing the device to sleep properly but maybe it sorted itself out by now.

I read that on Jellybean 4.2, but not on 4.1.1 or 4.1.2. 4.2 isn't out for this device yet other than rooting it. I've seen them talk about 4.2 on tablets using a lot more battery than other versions.
