Just ordered R2-D2!

I'm switching over from a Storm. I was a bit hesitant since I wasn't crazy about the Droid 2 keyboard, but the Star Wars geek in me prevailed. Hopefully I'll get use to it.

Awesome, congrats on your R2D2. Motorola was super clever with releasing this. I had bad luck with my D2 personally, but this new one is pretty slick. Hope it's great. I went from a Droid so the D2 keyboard was a lot bigger and spread out which I hated at first but like anything, I got used to it in no time!

Ditto. I came from the Blackberry world too (Bold2|9700). I can't wait. I'm assuming most/all the Droid 2 accessories will work with the R2D2...?

they are physically the same exact phone the differences are only in the paint job and the heavy software integration but physically the phones are identical so the accesories will all work.

I'm also considering getting that phone but I'm concerned is that will I still be able to root it? Sorry if it's a stupid question as this is still kinda new to me

I don't see why you couldn't root it, it's just a Droid 2 with a different case and a little Star Wars integration.

BTW - I'm loving this phone. My wife even thinks it's kinda cool, although she still thinks she's married to a big geek.

Alright sweet! Looks like that's the phone I'm getting. Can anyone point me to the way of a guide?

I just don't want to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a second R2D2 branded cradle. Good to know I can just get the regular Droid 2 cradle. I thought maybe the graphics changed the physical form a little.

I already ordered a Droid 2 full body skin from bestskinsever.com, do you see any issue with application or more so removal? I just don't want the graphics to get messed up... I don't see the low level adhesive doing any damage but, better safe than sorry.

The D2 R2-D2 comes with the R2-D2 multimedia station. I guess that's part of the $50 premium.

As for the graphics; I don't think a body skin will remove them. At least not on the battery door, which is metal.

I just got mine, and I came to the same conclusion. I'll let you know how the skin application goes.
