Hey guys...have been counting down the days until my contract was up and I could upgrade with the full discounts from Verizon...well, today's the day...but found that there were much better deals to be had with 3rd party retailers (Walmart, Dell, etc)...so, I just upgraded my account with Dell and got the DX for $49 instead of the $149 I was getting ready to pay...HOWEVER, this is the first time I've used a 3rd party to get my phone...have always gone through Verizon...will the activation be painless? Will I need to go to the store? Will Verizon even help since I didn't buy the phone from them? Have backed up contacts on my Storm with backup assistant...so, many questions, so little time.

As long as you know the ESN or MEID of your device (I forget which), then you should have no trouble with activating the phone through VZW's website. If you do have trouble, just call VZW customer service, they will help regardless of where you bought your phone.

You'll have no trouble activating the phone. Customer service may be a different issue. I've always bought my phones directly from verizon, so I have no idea if they will support your X or not. I know they will still take care of calling and network issues for you, but I don't what they'll do if you need a replacement. The price of your phone is pretty irrelevant when you consider that over the next 2 years you'll spend between $2,500 and $3,500 in service charges.

I've just ordered mine through wirefly waiting for them to ship it. I have the same question about whether I need to activate it or if it will come ready to go. I got it for freeeeeeee and I'm so glad that my time with the vibrant is numbered.

I have activated a few phones not purchased through verizon, painless. Thats a good price, two year contract?

It shouldn't be a problem. And Verizon will offer support for your phone. They will even offer insurance for it within the first 30 days.
