Just read that my friend as sent me an article saying there is a worm going round that gets into you phone and gets the banking details.
How safe are we, and they said iOS is only a bit safer as they update there security more often.
Do you still use you bank app and PayPal etc on your phone and id google protect good as i have Kaspersky in as well the paid version as i have it on my p.c.

Do you have a link to the article? Without seeing the article we can't answer very well.

As for iOS security being updated more frequently - my Pixel 2 XL gets updated monthly. If your device is not I suggest you contact your device manufacturer and express your interest in more frequent updates.

Finally - if you follow safe usage practices (don't visit unusual links, don't open links or attachments from strangers, etc) your chances of being "infected" are greatly reduced, regardless of how often your device is updated.

As to that article, there's always malware out there, but I took a look at that writer's profile. His list of articles include a lot of "sky is falling" headlines about Android, which it isn't and I'm not putting much stock in this latest one being as dangerous as he claims. I also suggest you read this one.

Reading that article - as long as your OS is on the latest security patch (December, 2019) and you have 3rd-party sources disabled you should be relatively safe, especially if you follow safe browsing practices as noted before.

Side note - not a fan of news sites like that one with the embedded videos that auto play and pop down to a corner while scrolling..

Its disabled by default. You have to OK those permissions.

Additionally - with Android 10 (maybe with Pie as well, I don't recall), the 3rd-party sources setting is on a per-app basis so you can allow it for, say, the Amazon market for Android apps but not for Chrome where the issues this article is talking about would initiate.

It has been like that since Oreo, and on older versions Play Protect does that.

Read everything JR Raphael writes. He's one of the best tech writers around, and is always the voice of reason when there's a ton of hype going around about anything.

If you disable "unknown sources", you'll be safe. If you have to install something not from Play, give that app permission, install the app, then disallow the permission.

That's a good second article. Wish more people would take the time to look at stuff like that. Then again how would we fill some of these long nights trying to convince people they aren't being hacked by their neighbors 1986 Casio calculator they bought from Radio Shack?
