Hey guys, I just decided to finally take the plunge and root my Fascinate. I had no problems rooting it with the one step process, I'm pretty tech savvy and the instructions were flawless, and now I'm just looking for the next step. I've spent countless hours going through the threads and trying to cram as much knowledge as I possibly can. I downloaded Titanium Backup and ran a backup batch of all user apps + system data, is this the most efficient setting to use to backup everything on my phone for now? What should I download next, or what should my next step be before trying to learn how to flash ROMs and Kernels? I didn't see a thread that sort of gave you the little push in the right direction after you finish rooting, although I'm sure the information is somewhere. I'm glad to finally be a part of the rooting community and getting my hands dirty. Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Hey Frankie, welcome to Android Central, I'm glad you found our guides flawless as you said :) . so if you would like to flash a rom you will need clockwork recovery.

the files and instructions you need can be found here try section 2 of the clockwork recovery post you will also need to use odin which the download and instructions are also there. http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...ckworkmod-recovery-return-stock-use-odin.html

One more thing, please check your PM inbox

The video is actually very informative, you should make more! It helps to have a visual guideline to help along the way. Before I move on to using clockwork and flashing, I just wanted to make sure I had everything backed up. I downloaded the free titanium backup and ran a batch of apps + system data. Am I supposed to move titanium backup to my sd card? Also I read about the nandroid thing, is it better for backing up everything too? I just mainly want to make sure I don't lose my contacts, texts, pictures... Thanks again for all of the help man

Back up your contacts to gmail and you will be good to gofor that. I wouldn't bother with tb until you get your phone setup. So root. Flash cwm. Do a nandroid backup. Flash a new rom. Something like superclean or Rubik. They are deodexed and debloated. Rubik's is even more debloated than superclean. Once you have your new rom setup, go get all the Alps and Widgets you want. Get the phone set exactly how you like. Now do a titanium backup. Once that's done, do another nandroid. Now you have freshly rooted stock nandroid and a debloated nandroid that's set how you like it. The second will be your working backup. Now flash away. Try different roms and themes. If you screw something up flash your working backup. I don't even keep a stock back up, I just have my working backup. If I have to go back to stock I will use Odin.

ill work on making more, thanks for the feedback im still working on the details with the videos...... ok well titanium makes a file on your sd card, what i do is i backup my whole SD card onto my computer once a week just incase it gets corrupted, your sd card is where all your pictures are mostly likely saved.....i dont know if titanium backs up the texts i never really cared so i never paid attention to that... as for contacts you can save them many ways

from contacts screen >hit the menu button>export/import>export to SD

from home screen>ht the menu button>settings>accounts and sync>check auto sync>choose your google account from bottom>select the contacts

from home screen>ht the menu button>settings>accounts and sync>backup assistant>hit backup>enter pin (you can get your pin from verizon online account)

as for "nandroid"backup this is done from clockwork or rom manager , this backs up just the rom, not the kernel or radio. it takes a snap shot of everything, when restored it will bring you back to the exact state the phone was when you made the back up. So if you are running a custom rom it will replace it and go back to whatever the rom was when you made the backup.

From clockwork recovery go to backup and restore>backup

from rom manager select back up rom

Thanks for the quick responses. I guess I will go ahead and dive into the clockwork part. I'll let you know how it goes

I followed your video and all went well, very very good job on it! Now the next step is backing up with nandroid correct?? I would have to power down and go back into CWM to do this if I remember correctly, then I can start trying out different ROMs. Which ones do you guys use or recommend?

Quick question before I try out the superdark ROM. It says it's only compatible with the DJ05. I followed your video and I remember it said DJ05 and DL09 ROM. I just wanted to double check and make sure

First from clockwork recovery you should make a backup of the current state your rom is in,,,, go to backup/restore>backup>scroll to yes.....and always do this stuff with a charged battery ....DJ05 and DL09 are compatible i have been running it with no problems

That's the first thing I did as soon as I got done with your video, lol. I'm going to try out superdark now. Thanks!

I'll see how it works, hopefully there will be no problems.. Would the "How I learned to flash a ROM" thread be the best one to help??

thanks i forgot i need to update that thread,,, make sure the rom zip file is on your root of your sd card...like the update.zip file.......before you flash the rom wipe data and cache partition, then flash the rom the same way you flashed the kernel,, then just wait for it to finish. then reboot....it may take a couple mins for the rom to load up

i need to get ready to go out so ill be back an forth

I wasn't sure if you meant to wipe both the factory data and then the cache partition, so I only did the cache, then flashed the ROM and now rebooted. It's still loading up, but was I supposed to do the factory data also???

sometimes you will see funny things if you dont but you should be fine,,, you can always just reboot in recovery and flash it again if there is a problem

Thanks for all of your help, it is greatly appreciated!! How is the battery with the ROM/ Kernel?? Should I look into doing a different Kernel, or just keep this one?
