I was literally going to post the exact same thing! I got my beta invite e-mail earlier today and scanned in my CC right away. That process was simple. Then I went down to Best Buy and bought a Bluray. I was a little apprehensive both for myself and the cashier: for myself so I wouldn't look stupid if it didn't work and for the cashier who probably had no idea what I was doing.

In hindsight, it went very well! I told the cashier what I was doing before I did it, and she seemed eager for me to try it. I swiped up from my screen, used my fingerprint to authenticate, and then held the phone to the barcode scanner. It worked flawlessly, and she seemed quite intrigued as well. It's a compliment to say that it worked every bit as good as Apple Pay when I was using that on my iPhone. Of course, Samsung Pay works with barcode scanners which is a big plus (even though NFC is coming to Best Buy later this year).

The only thing I missed was being able to have my Best Buy Rewards card on my phone so I could use the phone to scan that as well. As it stands, if I want my points, I still have to get that card out and have it scanned before paying. I know Apple has been implementing store cards and rewards cards into their payment system, so hopefully Samsung can do the same.

Yeah I was impressed how easy it was to set up and to use. It's definitely a feature I will be using alot! As far as rewards cards it's really not that big of a deal you can just give best buy your phone number instead of your rewards card and you'll still get the points... but I agree with you that it would be nice and alot easier if membership cards and rewards cards were integrated. Overall I'm extremely happy with Samsung pay!

Very cool, hoping I get an invite soon.

How exactly does it work using a magnetic card terminal, aka not an NFC terminal? What is the process?

What did you have to do to install it? When I launch the pay app it says "install" no where..... :( are you on att? Wonder if the carrier has to send an update out or not.

It's really no different from the user perspective. Instead of holding the phone up to the NFC contact, you simply hold the phone up to the barcode reader where you would normally scan you card. You don't even have to touch it - just get very close. Technologically, it still uses a token so your credit card number is not actually shared with the merchant, and it is authenticated using your fingerprint or password.

The biggest hurdle (at least here in the USA) is that many places take your actual credit card for payment, such as many sit-down restaurants. Even Samsung Pay isn't going to work here, though some restaurants (like Olive Garden for example) are putting cashier terminals right at your table for you to pay yourself. With these, Samsung Pay would presumably work even if the actual terminal doesn't have NFC. As long as it lets you swipe your card, you should be able to use it. At gas stations, I have read that you have to at least insert some kind of card into the reader for it to activate, then you can hold your phone up to it - but YMMV.

Once you are accepted into the beta, you open the Android Pay app and it will automatically ask you to install the update. I'm on AT&T, but it's supposed to work on all major US carriers except Verizon.

What I am excited about is when the beta is up and you can add any credit card. I have 10 or more credit cards all with different promotions or interest free or 2 times the reward points in certain categories etc... well I don't want to carry around 10 credit cards so when I can enter all the cards into samsung pay I can maximize my benefits by selecting that card without having to carry around 10 credit cards. Also I don't carry my home depot card unless I know I'm going there. But if I have it saved in samsung pay and make an unexpected stop there I can use it by swiping to it. Samsung pay is a Great feature and I can see them expanding its possibilities!

I got an email saying I was accepted. When I launch the app it doesn't say install.. Maybe I should wipe?

Sorry I don't know maybe call samsung and ask or email them. Mine went through first try no problem. Samsung has been on the ball today. Got accepted into the beta and I just got an email with my promotional code for their 1 free year of netflix offer.

Did you use your Samsung account email? Make sure you are signed into your Samsung account in the Android settings menu under Accounts.

To help save yourself with carrying the card around, download Cardstar from the Play Store. I've been using it quite a while now and haven't carried a physical card around in years.

Also try beepn'go it's specifically for Samsung devices. Store loyalty cards and membership etc... I just find those things a hassle and give them my phone number at register. This all stores coupons as well... Maybe worth a look....

So apparently Amex will work at launch, but is not eligible for the beta?

Go to settings , about , check for updates if nothing there click on samsung pay it should ask you to install the app if you got in the beta

Yeah more banks and cards should be compatible with the launch. The beta is limited to certain banks/cards.

That's weird in my best buy store I just tell them I am a rewards member and they ask me for my phone # I click verify on their screen and it applies my rewards card to the purchase and if I have any certificates they can access those right from their system as well. No need to have them scan any card etc..

Yeah, I'd rather not say my phone number out loud, but maybe that's just me. For me, it would be easier if it was just integrated into Samsung Pay and I just hold my phone in the same way I pay.

There is an app called Beep n Go in the Play Store. I've set mine up, but haven't used it yet so I can't attest to how well it works.
